Bronson Reed has a lot of love for Shawn Michaels.
This April, WWE will hit a milestone marker as it celebrates its 40th annual WrestleMania event. As this year’s “Show of Shows” continues to take shape, Bronson Reed looks back on some of the memorable matches from the event’s past, specifically in relation to Shawn Michaels, the man hailed as “Mr. WrestleMania.” During a recent interview with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard, Reed revealed his top two Shawn Michaels moments from WrestleMania.
“100%, the boyhood dream, when he beat Bret [Hart], the Iron Man match. I was a kid, I’m a 90s kid, and I just remember thinking, ‘That’s incredible. He gets to live his dream, and it’s something that I’d like to do myself.’ So 100% that. But he is Mr. WrestleMania, so it’s hard to pick one match of his that I love the most,” Reed said.
“It’s got to be either that one or the first [match with] him and Undertaker [at WrestleMania 25] because that blew my mind. I think as a match itself, The Undertaker-Shawn Michaels match is pretty untouchable. I think the Bret Hart-Shawn Michaels match is a great match in a different way. I’d say The Undertaker-Shawn Michaels match is better, but for memories and nostalgia, [the favorite] is WrestleMania 12 for me.”
“The storytelling they did in that [Hart-Michaels] match, sudden death,” Reed continued. “I don’t think anyone pictured that happening a whole hour where there was no pinfalls, so pretty incredible and pretty untouchable as well. I’ve seen a lot of other Iron Man matches that are exciting. Obviously, you have multiple falls and stuff, but that’s always the one.”
Ring Gear Choices
In addition to being synonymous with WrestleMania, Shawn Michaels is also known for his wide range (and often flashy) ring gear. In analyzing his own stylistic choices, Reed noted that his main objective is to stand out. With WrestleMania 40 coming up, Reed also provided a teaser of what fans can expect from his ring gear, assuming he lands a spot on the card.
“I feel like more and more people step up their game when it comes to the PLEs. People having extravagant gear and what they do, and that’s no different for me this weekend [at the Royal Rumble],” Reed said. “I do have a new set of gear, a new entrance robe. It’s sort of not themed anything towards wrestling, but I’m sure people will think it’s themed towards wrestling when you when they see it. But it’s mainly to stand out and it’s more of an influence of the stuff that I like outside of the ring,” Reed explained.
“I think I already have an idea of a Mania entrance gear, whether that comes to fruition, if I’m part of the show or not, I’m not sure,” Reed added. “But there’s a little hint of green in there, but not a whole lot of green. So we’ll see. We’ll see.”
