Sierra Reflects On The ‘Wild’ Experience Of Wrestling Aja Kong

Sierra reflects on her opportunity to wrestle the legendary Aja Kong.

For nearly one year, Sierra has reigned as the Midwest All-Star Wrestling Women’s Champion. First claiming the title at last year’s MAW Heart Of A Warrior 3 event, Sierra has extended her reign with successful title defenses against the likes of Rachael Ellering, KiLynn King, and most recently, Aja Kong. During an interview with WrestleZone‘s Ella Jay, Sierra looked back on her latest title defense, describing it as a “wild” experience.

“I feel like I went on such a big roll of these things happening where it’s something that you never thought would happen, but now it is. It started [with ranking on] PWI, then there were a few other little things where I’m like, ‘Whoa that’s so cool.’ Then all of a sudden [the promotion said] ‘Here’s your match with Aja Kong.’ I was very nervous going into the day,” Sierra said. “I feel like general wrestling anxiety, but like way more. I haven’t had that bad of nerves in so long. And it was their biggest show of the tear too. So, of course, it was like all right, well this matchup is happening in front of their biggest crowd. They had such an amazing setup, so all of the nerves were happening.”

“It was a lot of fun. The experience to say that I stood across the ring from Aja Kong [is] just wild to me, just wild. As soon as the match was over, there was that relief like ‘Oh my God, okay.’ Then the rest of the night just taking it in, and trying to replay the memory, seeing the pictures, seeing the video clips. It was that taking-it-in-and-finally-realizing-what-happened moment. You got through the nerves and the business. You know what you had to do, and you got through it. Then it was reflection time of taking that and realizing like damn, that happened. I did that.”

Aja Kong isn’t the only veteran Joshi talent Sierra wrestled at MAW in 2023. Last May, Sierra also tangled up with TJPW’s Miyu Yamashita in a non-title match at the promotion’s Vendetta event.
