Thom Latimer Is Proud Of His ‘Pass The Torch’ Moments w/ Abyss

WrestleZone recently spoke with Thom Latimer, who had a few match picks from several different eras in his wrestling career.

“That’s a tough one. I’d probably sort of give a few or at least angles and stuff. Even starting back with when I was in the Ascension in NXT, me and [Conor O’Brian] had a good couple of matches with The Usos that I was proud of. One of my favorites was with Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel. That was one of my favorite matches that I had in NXT for that short amount of time. It got rebranded and we were on that, so the Ascension versus Justin Gabriel and Tyson Kidd.

“In TNA, I really enjoyed my feud with Magnus and his wife Mickie [James]. Obviously, he’s my best friend and we’re super close. We somehow always end up living close to each other whenever we move. So he’s just down the road from me now again. The stuff that we did in the UK, that feud, and then I think we finished off in Orlando or whatever, it was just a fun feud that you could sink your teeth into and you can have some real emotion. It helps when you get a good storyline. You’re both invested, you’re both involved in it. You both know each other, you both know what each other can do and what you want to get out of it. So that was definitely one of my favorite feuds.”

Latimer then pointed out how he got a run as a hardcore wrestler in TNA, but isn’t sure why. Despite not understanding how TNA saw him as a hardcore guy, he does have fond memories of his work with Abyss and some other TNA notables.

“Abyss passing the torch to me a little bit there with his Monster Ball matches and Stairway to Janice and the feud with Abyss, just because I’m a new guy coming in and he doesn’t have to put me over or help build me. [Abyss] is such an amazing, great guy anyway, ahell of a talent. So it was really cool to work with him and have him sort of guide me and help try and elevate me when I got there, doing his shtick. Then I enjoyed my feud with Ken Anderson, even though I feel like it was kind of short-lived. They were ones that stand out to me and that were fun.”

As far as his latest stop with the NWA, Thom Latimer is proud of his work with Royce Isaacs, and against Pope D’Angelo Dinero.

“Me and Pope worked really well together. It was the first time we’d wrestled and we went, ‘Oh, we’ve definitely got something.’ Unfortunately, there’s never been a time to sort of do anything more with it, but I got a lot of love and respect for Pope. He’s a hell of a talent. I know that if I was in a feud with him, it’d be a lot of fun. We could really do some cool stuff.

“I want to be in that position where I’m doing that. I want to be like my wife being in these main events and killing it and having some good storylines to sink my teeth into. Because you can have good matches and you can have a good match, but it helps if there’s some substance and content to it. It really does, for the fans and for yourself too. I could name a handful of good matches, even one that had with EC3 a while back. I don’t know if it was TV or a pay-per-view or what, we had a good match, but it wasn’t really for anything. So I’m still yet to sort of have those matches that I want now and and I’m ready for. I feel, for me, it’s still ‘watch this space.’”
