More From Alberto Del Rio’s Press Conference: How Many Dates He Will Work, Negotiations in MMA; Does He Have a Non-Compete With WWE?

Earlier today Alberto Del Rio held a press conference in Mexico to discuss his future in pro wrestling, after being granted his request from WWE this week. While we reported several of the major details earlier, we now have some new information from the press conference to share.

  • As reported Del Rio is looking to retire in two years. We can also add that he will be limiting himself to 60 dates per year and will be spending the majority of time remaining in Mexico with his family. Specifically mentioned were his father Dos Caras, brother Guillermo, and uncle Mil Mascaras.
  • According to Del Rio, his conversation with Vince McMahon went so well that there is no ill-will between them at all, and he isn’t even under the traditional 90-day no compete contract.
  • He will be in talks with AAA, CMLL and Liga Elite, which are all competing promotions, but remains adamant that he will not be signing an exclusive contract with any company.
  • Del Rio says he doesn’t regret his second tenure with the company, and that he left in part because they weren’t doing much with him, but mostly because he was “losing the passion” for the business because of the WWE schedule and amount of dates they have to work, and told Vince McMahon that he didn’t want to lose his passion for pro wrestling.
  • He has many projects he’s working on, and says he’s in talks with an MMA company to be a part of their board of directors, as well as an announcer for the promotion. He also stated that he’s interested in becoming a sports announcer in the U.S.
