On getting to work with and interview El Hijo Del Perro Aguayo for Lucha Mexico before his tragic passing in the ring:

Alex: We spent a lot of time with him actually. He wasn’t the main character but he was a wrestler that we really connected with. He was super charismatic. Incredibly talented. We were very affected by what happened. We had a cut of the film that we passed and we were going to start shopping around. We had to spend all of last year re-cutting it following the tragedy. It was a tough year.

Ian: What we ended up doing to address his death in a way that didn’t feel like we were exploiting it is we had to expand on some things. Maybe there were a couple of details that we eliminated because they felt, at that point, extraneous to something that was ultimately a very tragic story. The film had to be re-shaped and worked on. We spent a little time in Tijuana after he died and we spent more time with Damian 666 and Halloween. Guys that worked closely with him. So that they would have that in-ring perspective of what it was like to work with him and what it’s like to go through something like that. It was one of those things where we were shocked and it took us awhile to figure out how to address it in a way that we were comfortable with. Ultimately it was about him and his memory. We just kind of followed our gut on that.
