I have a new wrestling column every Monday and Friday for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. The latest is talking about Sting vs Seth Rollins. The following is an excerpt:
Sting, 56, is about to challenge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for the first time in his career. Yes, history is being made, but let’s not make too much history, especially if not logical.
The WCW legend in a WWE title match is an attraction to some. It’s a fresh match with his vintage skill set against one of the most talented and emerging stars in Seth Rollins. The match is another marketable campaign to continue pushing new subscribers to the WWE Network.
For those reasons, I don’t mind the match, and I have some excitement to see it. But don’t mistake my excitement for false hopes. Sting will not be WWE World Heavyweight Champion. If he is, you’ll be able to clock it with an egg timer.
The only purpose Sting would have holding the title is it would be such a “never thought this would happen moment” and provide more heat on Sheamus when he sneak attacks him to use his Money in the Bank title shot.
Sheamus could cash in if WWE still wants to give him a run with the title. If it is not interested in Sheamus doing that anymore, the company could keep it on Rollins for a little while longer in a great showing as the top heel. Just let Rollins flat out beat Sting. Some fans don’t think Sting will start 0-2 in his WWE career. My response is he’s 0-1 right now and getting a title shot. Do you really want to embrace records?
