Dish Statement On WWE Pay Per View Events
Dish Network has released the following statement on ending their coverage of WWE pay per view events in the future. We noted previously that Dish would no longer carry the PPV's, including WrestleMania 30.
Here is the statement from Dish:
"Please note that WWE is not willing to adjust PPV costs to satellite/cable companies, which is unfair to their customers. DISH needs to re-focus efforts to support partners that better serve DISH customers and other satellite/cable companies, including DirecTV, have also expressed they may no longer provide WWE PPV events in the future."
While it's true that DirecTV has expressed concern over the new WWE Network and whether they will continue to carry WWE PPV events in the future, they will be carrying WrestleMania 30 this year. However, there are some that feel it's very possible 'Mania will be the last event they host.
It's all going to come down to the numbers. Most would assume wrestling fans will go the route of purchasing the Network before shelling out full price going with a provider like DirecTV. Why wouldn't you, right? But convenience and habit is still a strong motivator for many people, and casual fans who don't follow WWE as closely, but still come out of the woodwork for WrestleMania, might not know much at all, if anything, about the new WWE Network.
WrestleMania 30 will likely skew the numbers just because of its name and brand. Beyond that one event, it's very possible — and understandable — that DirecTV would drop out of carrying WWE Pay Per Views.
