CBS out of Pittsburgh has published a new article covering WWE Dr. Joseph Maroon, the head of WWE's medical team. On becoming a member of the WWE medical team back in 2006, Maroon had the following to say:
"They came to me and said look, 'We are interested in doing everything we can to protect our talent. It's the lifeblood of our industry. We want to do the very best that we can and the best medicine that we can to protect them.'"
The article goes on to note that WWE's drug testing is done by a third party, independent drug testing company called Aegis. WWE drug tests are conducted 4 times a year at random, and if a talent fails the test or is found a banned substance in his or her system, that talent is tested 7 times a year.
Stephanie McMahon also commented on WWE's extensive medical program by saying the following:
"We do cardiovascular screening. We do ImPACT testing. We do blood work. There is a drug testing component. It's really with the idea of having our athletes and our superstars have the best health possible."
