Jay Lethal to Walk for The Valerie Fund
The following has been issued to WZ:
ROH’S JAY LETHAL WILL WALK FOR THE VALERIE FUND SATURDAY IN N.J.
Ring of Honor wrestling star and Jersey native Jay Lethal will join over 4,000 walkers and runners at Verona Park on June 15 for The Valerie Fund Walk as part of the “Wrestlers Are Heroes” team to support children with cancer and blood disorders.
MAPLEWOOD, N.J. – This Saturday, June 15 pro wrestling fans have the chance to walk and talk with Ring of Honor wrestling’s Jay Lethal at Essex County’s Verona Park in New Jersey as part of The Valerie Fund Walk and JAG Physical Therapy 5K Run.
Participating as a member of the “Wrestlers Are Heroes” team, Lethal joins over 4,000 walkers and runners to promote The Valerie Fund’s mission to provide support for the comprehensive health care of children with cancer and blood disorders. Growing up in nearby Elizabeth, N.J., Lethal will walk to honor longtime fan-turned-great-friend, Ryan Torok, who was diagnosed with leukemia as a child.
“Ryan Torok quickly went from being a fan to someone I consider a great friend, and personally admire myself,” says Lethal, who now considers himself a bigger fan of Ryan the survivor than Ryan ever was of Lethal the pro wrestler. “The Valerie Fund really hits home with me for that very reason,” he explains.
“But whatever the reason is for wanting to help, nobody’s time or donation can be too small.” Lethal has promised anyone who walks with him an open opportunity to hang out and talk to veteran wrestling star about anything they want, with no topic off-limits.
Verona Park is located on Bloomfield and Lakeside Avenues in Verona, N.J. Donations for the “Wrestlers Are Heroes” team page can be made at this link http://www.thevaleriefund.org/Walk2013/team.php?team=636, where registration to walk with Jay Lethal will remain open online until 6 p.m. on Friday, June 14. After that, participants must register at the park the morning of the event.
The Valerie Fund is a not-for-profit organization committed to providing support for the comprehensive health care of children with cancer and blood disorders, which includes treating them emotionally, socially, and developmentally, as well as medically. Last year’s Walk raised over $1 million, with the goal this year to beat that by at least $250,000.
