Henry O. Godwinn finally made his debut during a dark match at last night’s SmackDown tapings in Florence, South Carolina. In an interesting matchup, he teamed up with Ray Gordy (son of Terry Gordy) to defeat the team of Tatanka and Rob Conway. Godwinn hit the Slop Drop on Conway for the win. Also, Godwinn had his slop bucket in tow.
Several profiles have been recently removed from the SmackDown section on WWE.com. In addition to Josh Mathews’ profile being removed, the profiles of Jake & Jesse of the Gymini, announcer Steve Romero, and Joey Mercury have been removed as well. All five individuals are still under contract to WWE and haven’t been released. Romero & Mathews haven’t appeared on SmackDown in months and are now doing work for international recap shows & WWE 24/7. The Gymini are currently down in DSW and should be brought up to the main roster eventually. Joey Mercury’s official status is currently in limbo, but he’s expected to head over to ECW as a singles heel as early as this week.
Jim Ross posted several new blogs on his site yesterday. In one of the blogs, he gives his thoughts on Monday’s RAW, not to mention the current WWE scene. Among the highlights of the blog are his thoughts on Joey Mercury. Ross wrote, “Good to see Joey Mercury back from his hiatus. Mercury has too much talent to allow anything negative to take him out of the game. I hope Joey realizes that opportunities donât come along every day and to count his blessings and take advantage of the moment. I think he will.” He also name-drops Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin and Rob Conway – three individuals who haven’t appeared on RAW much as of late. Regarding them, Ross wrote, “How hungry do you think Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, and Rob Conway are to get an opportunity to become bigger stars than they already are? Really hungry I would suggest. I like the upside of all these guys and feel they will elevate their games in the near future. There is no doubt that all three of these men can wrestle.”
