Youâll learn a great deal about Eddie Guerrero in the Viva La Rasta: The Legacy of Eddie Guerrero. For example, are you aware that his first âopponentâ in his âdebut matchâ was against a stuffed monkey.
Safe to say that he won.
The three-disc âValentineâ to Latino Heat features those anecdotes and more. This is a loving, yet realistic tribute to the former WWE champion told the way these stories should be told. With matches interspersed with personal reflections of Guerrero. You wonât find revisionist history here. From the blind date with Vicki to the battles with demons, you get the âtotal packageâ that is Eddie Guerrero.
Referred to by his peers as magic, smooth and good, if not better than anyone in the world, Eddie Guerrero is a classic example of how a supposed lack of size can overcome the muscle obsession of many promoters. The DVD follows Guerrero from his days with Art Barr to his reign as WWE champion.
You see him in ECW, WCW and WWE. Who made Eddie a star? He did. He had the natural ability and charisma that WWE shined a bright spotlight on.
You learn new things about Latino Heat. You remember things that you may have forgotten. The brief teaming with Chris Jericho in WCW, nicknamed the âNorth and South of the Border Connectionâ and referred to by Y2J as the âbest tag team that never existed.â
WCW was a microcosm of Guerreroâs professional struggles. He struggled with his fellow cruiserweights in a âsecond WCW,â outside of the bright spotlight of the larger and more well-known stars. Rey Mysterio claimed to have actually created moves with Eddie while they were down in Atlanta. Sadly, few in the upper echelon noticed.
But, seriously, did we have to hear sn*ppets of commentary from Steve McMichael and Lee Marshall.
His WWE days are covered in great detail, save for the omission of his âRadicalzâ days, which is understandable, but sad. The Latino Heat character truly evolved into a fun-loving, but aggressive and supremely talented wrestler. He poked fun at others. He poked fun at himself and his heritage. Winning the WWE title was a career hallmark. His reaction to the victory is a real moment. The belt was not a prop.
If you are a fan of Eddie Guerrero and/or a fan of good wrestling, pick up this highly recommended DVD. Simply put, Eddie Guerrero was vastly talented, respected and, most importantly, loved. Seriously, if you donât shed a tear at the end, you have a heart of stone or have had your tear ducts removed. His loss is still so fresh.
