Queen of the Ring could’ve had a CEO in the cast if things worked out another way.
The film has been receiving positive reviews after opening this weekend. AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm, Kamille, and WWE’s Naomi are all a part of the film. Recently, AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Moné shared that she was approached to be a part of the film.
In the latest edition of the Moné Mag, Mercedes Moné revealed that she was approached about a role in Queen of the Ring. Unfortunately, the CEO was sidelined due to an injury at that time. Thus, she was unable to take up the role.
Mercedes Moné shares why she was not in Queen of the Ring
“Before AEW Revolution, I made my way to LA for the red carpet premiere of “Queen of the Ring,” a film that tells the incredible story of Mildred Burke. It’s truly surreal for me. A couple of years back, I was approached to be a part of this project, but unfortunately, I was sidelined due to an injury. However, seeing my girls Trinity, Toni Storm, and Kamille shine in this film fills me with so much joy.
“Let’s be real: women have always had to work ten times harder than men to get noticed in this industry. And when you look back at Mildred Burke’s era—wow! It was a whole different ballgame. I have immense respect for the trailblazers who laid the groundwork for women like me to build empires in this sport. I’m beyond excited for everyone to see this movie and to continue embracing women’s wrestling in all its glory.
“And, of course, you know I had to bring the heat on the red carpet! Anytime there’s a chance to showcase my style, I’m all in. This time, I channeled a 90s vibe with a touch of Pamela Anderson. My amazing makeup and hair artist absolutely nailed it! So don’t forget to hit the theaters and catch ‘Queen of the Ring,’ Mercedes Moné said.
Is Kamille still with AEW?
During a recent interview with WrestleZone, Kamille chose to stay mum about her AEW status. Kamille is in Queen of the Ring, but hasn’t been seen in AEW since December 2024. However, “The Brickhouse” did speak about her role as June Byers in the film, sharing that she’s excited for fans to see her promo skills in action.
“For about a year, or really two years, NWA was behind a paywall, and that’s when I was champion and cutting really good promos. So, a lot of people didn’t get to see those,” she said. “I’ve been cutting some good promos for a minute now, but a lot of people didn’t get to see those.”
“No, no, no. It is fair [to say] that a lot of people haven’t gotten a chance to see that. I’m with you. I’m excited for people to see that side, or never got a chance to see because it was behind that paywall. Now this movie is going national, [and I’m excited to show what I can do].”
