In recent weeks, Tony Khan has released Ricky Starks, Malakai Black, Miro, and Rey Fenix from their AEW contracts.
All Elite Wrestling President Tony Khan recently participated in the Revolution Media Call. When asked about the recent releases of Miro, Ricky Starks, Rey Fenix, and Malakai Black, Khan said it’s a case-by-case basis but believed these releases in particular were the right thing to do for the company and everyone involved.
“It’s a fair question, and I think some of it’s in line with what I’ve been talking about,” Tony Khan said. “I do think, to your point, it is a case-by-case basis. I think everything is really a case-by-case basis. So much of life is a case-by-case basis. But I do think philosophically you’re right, it was a change from what I’ve been doing. But it just felt like the right thing for the company and everyone involved at this point. And that’s the thinking behind that.
“But like I said, it’s on a case-by-case basis, and they’re all different situations. But in this case, those did have similar outcomes. So it’s fair to ask and ask why now and why I wouldn’t have done that before. And I just decided that’s what I thought was the right thing to do at this point. But it’s definitely fair to ask. But that’s really all there was to it.”
