Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling is set to crown their Women’s Canadian Champion for the first time at an upcoming show.
The company was founded by Scott D’Amore last year after being let go by TNA. He quickly cemented MLP as a top promotion in Canada, with stars like Mike Bailey, Konosuke Takeshita and Josh Alexander.
However, they are currently lacking in having their own title belts. That has begun to change with the latest announcement from MLP. On Twitter, the company announced that Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling Mayhem in Windsor would feature an eight-woman tournament to crown a new Women’s Canadian Champion. No wrestlers have been announced to compete yet, although it is assumed that former TNA star Gisele Shaw will be a big part of it.
The two nights of MLP Mayhem will decide the final two women in the tournament. After a quarter-final and semi-final match, the two finalists will battle at Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling Northern Rising in Toronto to be crowned the first-ever Women’s Canadian Champion.
“At #MLPWrestling Northern Rising in Toronto, we are going to crown the first ever MLP Women’s Canadian Champion! But first, there will be an 8-woman tournament at MLP MAYHEM in Windsor to decided the two finalists! Match-ups for the tournament coming soon!”
Scott D’Amore Wants Maple Leaf Pro To Be ‘The Heart Of Canadian Wrestling’
Scott D’Amore spoke with Justin Barrasso for Undisputed about the future of Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling. He said he wants the promotion to be “the heart of Canadian wrestling” in 2025 and wants to become a “force” in professional wrestling.
He also mentioned that he’d love to explore a partnership with WWE in 2025. Scott D’Amore helped set up TNA’s working relationship with NXT and was recently seen at the WWE Performance Center.
“We have a lot of moving pieces right now, and it all leads to an exciting 2025,” said Scott D’Amore. “We are going to be the heart of Canadian wrestling and a force in the global wrestling landscape.”
He added “We are very happy and excited about our existing partners. But we have an open-door policy. If WWE wants to join the party, we’d be open to exploring it.”
