Eddie Kingston really wants to step into the ring with Sheamus for the first time.
The former AEW Continental Champion suffered ACL And Meniscus tears back in May during a match against Gabe Kidd. He has been out of action ever since and Eddie Kingston is champing at the bit to make his return.
However, when he does come back, it’s not an AEW, ROH or NJPW star he has his eye. No, Eddie Kingston has decided he wants to wrestle former WWE Champion Sheamus once he’s back from injury, no matter how unlikely it is.
Eddie Kingston spoke about this with Will Turner of Wrestling With The Narrative. He revealed that he wants to fight Sheamus “so bad” and wants to show that he is the better man than the former WWE Champion. He also just loves his style, which would mesh well with Kingston’s.
“I want to fight him so bad.” Eddie Kingston said about Sheamus (H/T Fightful). “I want to wrestle him very much. I just want — it’s mostly about machismo, that I can show that I’m better and beat him. But also, the other part is I like his style.”
Eddie Kingston Shares Health Update, Details Recent Stomach And Physical Therapy Issues
Kingston has not competed since suffering an unfortunate injury against Gabe Kidd in May 2024. During the match, Kingston suffered a tibular fracture, ACL and meniscus tear. He had surgery to fix his leg, and recently told Wrestling With The Narrative‘s Will Turner about his progress and frustrations with getting healthy again.
“Physically, I feel like shit. Mentally, I feel like shit. So every day, I’m just working on getting better,” Kingston said (h/t Fightful). “Physical therapy, it’s been tough just to get to physical therapy because of my insurance. I just got new insurance and then right when I was ready to start my new PT place, I started getting stomach issues. I had to wait a long time, they had to do a thing where they put a camera down my throat. Good that it’s happening now when I’m off, but I was in a lot of pain.
“As of right now, it was nothing serious because I’m still awaiting for results, but from the initial thing he was like no cancer, no ulcer, no nothing. My primary doctor was like, ‘How’s stress for you?’ [laughs] I said, ‘How long do you have, do we need a therapist to come in here?’ They’re trying to get me to not stress out, calm down.”
Kingston then spoke about how not having pro wrestling has messed with his head. However, he credited his girlfriend and friends for being a good support system for him. Kingston joked that his shaggy appearance is him in his “[Bruiser] Brody era,” but he’s doing fine overall.
