Amanda Kiss is always smiling, and there’s a good reason for it.
Some might think it resembles the Joker. Others might call it a nod to the Smile film franchise. According to Kiss, however, her elongated smile simply comes from a place of pettiness.
During a recent interview with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, Kiss revealed the story behind her signature facial expression.
“I’m not going to lie, I draw a lot of my inspiration for things based off of my pettiness,” the indie star said. “It’s almost art in my mind. In my opinion, wrestling, smiling, having fun, go hand in hand. It’s already a painful sport, there’s enough stress in it already, so why would we not try and make good times where we could? So with the whole smile thing, that’s kind of what I was doing.
“If you can’t tell already, I’m always smiling. I have a really bad habit of always, no matter how I’m feeling, there’s a smile on my face. Of course, I will not drop names, but when I was training, I was told that I needed to stop smiling. I was like ‘Why?’ and they gave me the whole ‘Oh my God, wrestling and smiling, it doesn’t go hand in hand. You need to look menacing. You need to look this and that and all the above.’ Then I was like what if I just [paint it on my face] and I turned it into my thing.”
Thoughts On The ‘Smile’ Franchise?
Last year, Paramount Pictures released Smile 2, the sequel to the original psychological supernatural horror film, Smile, that debuted in 2022. Growing up in a strict household, Kiss admittingly wasn’t exposed to a variety of shows and movies, such as those similar to Smile. In recent years, however, she has made an effort to catch up on some classics.
“The ‘Smile’ franchise, I saw the trailers for that and I was ‘Oh my God, I feel like a connection to this,'” Kiss said. “So every time I would see it, I would automatically think ‘Oh my God, Amanda Kiss, my character. I want to watch this so I could draw from this.’ I’m all about drawing from sources that aren’t wrestling.”
