AEW Dynamite Results:

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicks off with MJF making his way to the ring. The commentators announce that Friedman and Hangman aren’t allowed to touch each other tonight during this face-to-face confrontation.

Hangman Page makes his way to the ring as well. MJF throws his gum into the crowd and says he doesn’t speak poor. Friedman talks about the Casino Battle Royale that Page cost him at the first Double or Nothing. MJF says he had to climb his way back to the top and beat all the fans’ favorite wrestlers in the process.

MJF reminds Hangman that he defeated him to win his first Dynamite Diamond Ring and proceeds to run down all of his accolades. Hangman questions why MJF is talking to him like he doesn’t know who he is. Page says he should be proud of everything he’s accomplished but questions when running off his accolades he sounds angry instead of happy.

Hangman questions if he’s angry because he can’t win over the fans and MJF loses it for a second before calming down and insists he doesn’t care about the fans. Friedman says Page got special treatment because the fans believe he’s the main character of AEW.

Who is the main character of AEW?

MJF is clearly bothered with everything Page has done and the fans still cheer for him. Friedman questions after everyone Page has done, he wants to know if he still loves himself. MJF brings up him ending Christopher Daniels’ career. Page says if he could rip out his spine and give it to Daniels he would.

Hangman runs down Daniels’ accomplishments and says he took care of professional wrestling even when it didn’t take care of him. Page says Daniels is the best of us and it’s because of people like him they stand together in that ring tonight.

Hangman wonders if MJF’s career ended tonight what the fans would say about his career. Page says after everything he’s done these people still care about him and he’s not arrogant enough to figure out to know why. Hangman says he’s told a bunch of lies but he’s never lied to them. Hangman says everything he has he worked for and it wasn’t easy. Page says MJF spent five years cheating and scheming his way to the top.

Page says he hopes there’s a small part of MJF who questions if he’s better than everyone like he says. MJF asks Hangman if he’s a child. Friedman says the history books don’t give a damn how you get the job done and says he’s earned everything. MJF says Hangman was the golden boy chosen one even before AEW had its first show.

MJF asks Hangman to name one thing he does better than him. Hangman responds by saying that he’s real. MJF says Hangman can be the main character all he wants, he has no problem being the bad guy. Friedman spits on Hangman and runs away before Page can attack him and is held back by security.

Christopher Daniels: I know who you are and you know who you are.

Hangman attacks the security and lays them out but Christopher Daniels hits the ring to calm him down. Daniels says this is what he fought for and told Page not to listen to MJF. Daniels says he knows who Hangman is and he knows who he is as well.

A video package plays recapping Grand Slam Australia on Saturday.

The Patriarchy (w/ Mother Wayne) vs. The Opps

  • The finish of the match saw HOOK lock Nick Wayne in the Redrum to score the submission victory for his team.

Winners: The Opps

Grade: B+

Fun opening contest. I really enjoy the trio of Samoa Joe, HOOK, and Shibata. I don’t think that trio can have a bad match together. Christian Cage continued to play the role of the coward which will likely benefit him in a few weeks when he tries to cash in that contract at Revolution.

A predictable match announcement for AEW Revolution

It’s announced that MJF will face Hangman Page next month at Revolution.

Renee Paquette is backstage with Chris Jericho. Paquette mentions Jericho was pinned by Bandido at Global Wars. Jericho says Paquette should wipe that smirk off her face and says without him there is no AEW. Jericho says he doesn’t understand why everyone hates him and maybe he’s been too nice. Chris challenges Bandido to a match for the Ring of Honor World Championship this Saturday on Collision.

Street Fight: Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Big Bill

  • The finish of the match saw Powerhouse Hobbs hit Big Bill with spinebuster off the stage onto a table with barbed wire on it. Bill was unable to answer the count of ten, losing the match.

Winner: Powerhouse Hobbs

After the match, Bryan Keith tries to help Big Bill to his feet as Hobbs celebrates his win.

Grade: A-

That was a damn good street fight. I have to believe that was the end of the story between Hobbs and Bill because I can’t see where they would go from here. Hobbs has won the feud definitively.

A challenge to the Hurt Syndicate on AEW Dynamite

Brian Cage and Lance Archer are backstage with Renee Paquette. They make it clear they are after the AEW World Tag Team Titles and say they are going to confront The Hurt Syndicate this Saturday night on Collision.

Timeless Toni Storm makes her way to the ring. Storm says at Grand Slam she faced the woman from hell who broke her heart and took her soul. Storm says Mariah May is a sick bitch but she’s proud of her for giving her the fight of her life. Toni makes jokes about defeating May with a small package. Storm makes a cheap plug for the Queen of the Ring movie next month.

Toni says she’s going to be a fighting champion and she won’t be hard to find.

It’s announced that New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Gabe Kidd will compete this weekend on AEW Collision.

The Death Riders run like cowards

Willow Nightingale is backstage with Renee Paquette and she’s once again attacked by Marina Shafir and Jon Moxley takes away her interview time for a second week in a row. Moxley comes to the ring and rants about how he’s the champion and everyone needs to listen to him. Mox says Copeland isn’t here and he’s probably still laid out in Australia. Moxley says if Cope shows up at Revolution he’ll finish the job.

Jay White comes out and distracts the Death Riders as Cope comes in through the crowd and they take them all out. Cope grabs his nailed 2×4 and tries to hit Mox with it and the champ runs away. Cope says this isn’t Mox’s arena or his people, they are Cope’s people. The crowd eats it up. Cope says he’s going to take out the Death Riders one by one on the way to Revolution so it will be one-on-one and he’s going to kick Mox’s ass.

STARDOM’s Momo Watanabe calls her shot

Mercedes Moné is backstage with Renee Paquette. Mercedes says there’s no stopping the Moné Train. A video plays from Momo Watanabe of STARDOM who is cashing in her win from Wrestle Dynasty to challenge Mercedes for the TBS Championship at Revolution. Mercedes is mad and says if she wants to challenge for her title to show up at Dynamite and say it to her face.

Kris Statlander vs. Megan Bayne

  • The finish of the match saw Penelope Ford get involved which led to Megan Bayne hitting Kris Statlander with the F5 to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Megan Bayne

After the match, Ford attacks Statlander and Thunder Rosa comes to the ring with a steel chair to make the save. This led to a very weird interaction between Thunder, Penelope, and Megan.

Grade: B+

I really enjoyed the match itself, but that post-match stuff was NOT it. It was like the three women weren’t certain what they were supposed to be doing. It made them all look very bad. Not a fan of that at all.

Max Caster’s open challenge to continue on AEW Collision

Max Caster is backstage with Renee Paquette and says his open challenge will continue this Saturday on Collision.

Ricochet comes to the ring and declares that he’s looking to become a champion in AEW this year. This brings out Prince Nana who says this isn’t a setup and he’s out here to talk to him one-on-one and told Swerve to stay home. Nana says they’ve been beefing for months and he doesn’t know where it’s going, but he’s wearing something that doesn’t belong to him.

Prince Nana says the robe represents pride and integrity and that anyone wearing it has honor and he never gave Ricochet that opportunity. Nana asks Ricochet to give him the robe back. Ricochet tells him to take it. Nana can’t do it and Ricochet tells him he isn’t getting the robe back.

Revolution International Championship Series: Orange Cassidy vs. Roderick Strong (w/ The Undisputed Kingdom)

  • The finish of the match saw Orange Cassidy hit Roderick Strong with the Orange Punch to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Orange Cassidy

Grade: A-

After the match, Tony Schiavone interviews Orange Cassidy in the ring. Before Cassidy can speak he’s interrupted by The Don Callis Family. Callis says Cassidy is nothing but a red-headed hippy and sics Mark Davis and Konosuke Takeshita on him. Kenny Omega makes the save as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.

AEW Dynamite Review:

I enjoyed tonight’s show but I feel like it was a noticeable step down compared to the last few weeks of Dynamites and Collisions. There was a lot of talking tonight and I don’t know if that balanced enough with the action. There were also quite a few top stars not on the show tonight and that was definitely felt for me personally. I’m curious to see what they’re bringing to the table this Saturday on Collision. Overall, the show was good… but it wasn’t great.

Grade: B+
