CM Punk: It Was A ‘Rough Time’ For Relationships During WWE Lawsuit, Paul Heyman Was No Exception

The entire WWE Universe is curious to know what is the favor that Paul Heyman owes the Second City Saint CM Punk. Punk had mentioned that Heyman owes him a favor for helping the OG Bloodline win at Survivor Series War Games.

Recently, during a special interview, CM Punk was interviewed by Jackie Redmond. During the interview, Redmond asked what was the favor that Heyman owed the self-proclaimed Best in the World. Punk said that he will not be share anything about the ‘favor.’

“No. [CM Punk will not provide any insight on the favor from Paul Heyman]. [Can you tell when can this favor be granted?] No. Because I don’t know when I’m gonna actually need to cash it in. And we’re friends. Me and Paul. So, between the two of us, we probably owe each other a lot of favors. Right? I don’t know [if it is a juicy favor]. I think everyone is maybe building it up a little too much. You never know. I might have to just, one day, say like, ‘Hey, Paul can you pick me up on your way to Raw?’ That could wind up being the favor. That’s going to be super disappointing for everybody. But you never know. I think that sneaking suspicion is that everyone thinks that it is somehow connected to somebody else that Paul is close with. But we’ll find out.”

CM Punk on his friendship with Paul Heyman

“We are friends. We’ve always been friends. Paul Heyman obviously kind of a lightning rod in the wrestling world. I’ve never worked for Paul Heyman. So, I think that’s why our relationship has always been really, really good. We’ve just always been friends. He’s been other people’s managers, other people’s advocates, other people’s wise men.

“For me and him it’s always just been friendship. He has never signed my checks. I’ve never relied on him for where my money comes from. Other people who have, may have different feelings on Paul Heyman. And I understand that. But that’s why I think me and him get along so well and always have.”

CM Punk says his relationships with peers were fractured during his WWE lawsuit

Punk also shared that he did not communicate with Paul Heyman as much when he left WWE back in 2014.

“No. Paul was one of the guys… We would talk very intermittently. We actually ran into each other in LaGuardia Airport one time. And just backs to the wall, looking forward, having a conversation. You got to understand, when I left here, and there was a lawsuit and all kinds of really, really fun extracurricular stuff going on. I was advised by lawyers like, ‘You gotta watch what you say to anybody. Because it could wind up facilitating its way back and being [used against me legally].’ So I was super-guarded. It was a rough time for relationships back then. And Paul was kind of no exception,” CM Punk said.

Redmond asked when Punk’s relationship with Heyman was re-centered, and CM Punk said it basically happened when he returned to WWE. He surmised that their first in-person interaction was a hug — “a long, for other people uncomfortable, hug.”
