CM Punk believes he has one more hurdle to clear before he’s “over” how his night ended at the 2024 Royal Rumble.
Punk sat down with Jackie Redmond for a new interview ahead of the 2025 Royal Rumble. Punk will enter the match this year and looks to redeem himself after he suffered a tricep injury in last year’s match. Despite being cleared, CM Punk said he’s not sure he’s totally over what happened to him. He believes SummerSlam was a big first step, while working WWE’s Christmas weeks shows was another. The 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble could be his last one.
“I don’t know if I’m over it 100 percent yet. I think coming back in a short amount of time, six months, and doing SummerSlam, I think that was the first hurdle. Most recently, doing a Christmas loop and wrestling four or five times in a row, five nights in a row, that was another hurdle,” CM Punk explained. “I think the last hurdle, so to speak, is this year, this Rumble that’s coming up. But for the short term, I gave myself like a good eight-minute cry before I called my wife and told her, ‘Hey I got hurt.’”
CM Punk believes the 2025 Royal Rumble is his chance at a “do-over”
Redmond then asked what AJ said after he told her.
“Just ‘come home, I’ll take care of you. We’ll get over it, we’ll get through it.’ That’s what we did, that’s what she does for me. [Jackie says she picks him up] She always has my back, yeah.”
Redmond asked Punk what would be different if he could do things differently. Punk said he wouldn’t “wave the magic wand” for himself, but sees the 2025 Rumble match as his do-over.
“If I had that magic wand, I wouldn’t wave it. Not for myself. I think [I would] for other people in other situations. But for me, I think that’s what this coming Royal Rumble represents to me, is I got a re-do. I get to do it all over again and that’s how I look at it. That is my magic wand.”
