This year’s WWE Royal Rumble looks stacked on paper. The line-up (at the time of this writing) includes John Cena, CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and more. The upcoming men’s rumble match has the potential to surpass previous iterations based on star power alone.
While we can always talk about the 5 Best Royal Rumble Matches, this is more about WWE stars who could benefit from winning the career-altering match. But before we get to that, here’s the current Royal Rumble card for this Saturday:
- Men’s Royal Rumble match
- Women’s Royal Rumble match
- Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Kevin Owens – Ladder match for the Undisputed WWE Championship
- DIY (c) vs. MCMG – Two out of the three falls match for the WWE Tag Team Championship
Now, let’s begin!
Logan Paul winning the Royal Rumble would cause an internet meltdown
Logan Paul’s mid-air collision with Ricochet gave us one of the most viral Royal Rumble moments ever. Paul has since proved he belongs in the WWE. He’s already won a major singles title in the company, and now he wants to win the Rumble to earn himself a title shot at WrestleMania.
Paul’s Rumble announcement got him some major heat from the fans. Imagine how social media would react if he actually ended up winning the match. WWE is all about creating moments. Triple H could book Logan Paul to win the match – and potentially set up a multi-man world title match at WrestleMania.
Chad Gable
Chad Gable just might be the most underutilized Superstars on the WWE roster today. Gable spent his 2024 giving fans some incredible matches against the likes of Gunther and Sami Zayn. A heel turn ultimately led to an alliance with The Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile. Despite a promising start, American Made failed to pick up the win against The Wyatt Sicks.
The Men’s Royal Rumble match could be Chad Gable’s return to some major spotlight. Assuming Gable wins the rumble, he gets inserted into the world title program with former nemesis Gunther. Gable doesn’t need to win the world title but a victory this Saturday could help him regain his lost momentum.
Speaking of lost momentum…
Seth Rollins needs to get back into the world title picture
Seth Rollins created a legacy with the world title back in 2023. The Visionary proved to be a fighting champion with some really good title defenses. His world title run ended at the hands of Drew McIntyre but not before the pair brutalized each other with multiple finishers. He went on to help Cody Rhodes beat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL.
Being a former Royal Rumble winner, Rollins knows exactly what it takes to survive in this multi-man match-up. A win this Saturday would give Rollins the option to choose between the two world titles. WWE seems to have already teased his opponent in Gunther. But if there’s one man that needs the Rumble win more than Rollins, it’s…
CM Punk
CM Punk has been the subject of controversy in almost every promotion he’s worked in. Yet, he remains one of the most popular stars in wrestling today. He’s a former multi-time world champion in multiple companies but he’s never won a Royal Rumble, let alone main event a WrestleMania event.
These two accolades have eluded CM Punk in his illustrious career but that could all change this Saturday in Indianapolis. This past Monday’s RAW seemingly teased a Punk versus Cody match-up at WrestleMania. Assuming that is the big money match, Punk survives 29 other men to punch his ticket to the Grandest Stage of them All.
But what if…
John Cena wins the Royal Rumble
John Cena’s farewell tour kicked off on RAW’s Netflix premiere. That night, Cena declared for the rumble because he wanted to earn a shot at his 17th world championship. He could’ve just taken a shortcut like Eddy Thorpe but he’s always been about hustle, loyalty and respect. Cena has previously won the Royal Rumble on two different occasions.
Ideally, Cena’s road to WrestleMania would begin with a win this Saturday – which would be another major milestone for the former Franchise Player. This writer would love to see Cena, not only tie Steve Austin’s record for three Rumble wins, but claim his 17th world title at WrestleMania. As for his opponent, I’ll let you be the judge of that.
WrestleZone will have full coverage of Royal Rumble 2025 as it airs.
