WWE NXT Review: Hits And Misses For January 21

Welcome or welcome back to our weekly WWE NXT hits and misses series where we recap some of the biggest ups and downs from the show.

Miss – Tony D’Angelo vs. Ridge Holland

Ridge Holland may be tough but he lacks charisma. This writer is starting to question D’Angelo’s title run. It seems like all the momentum he had with the win over Oba Femi has gone. Izzi Dame’s run-in was the only highlight of the match.

Hit – Bayley & Giulia brawl with Roxanne Perez & Cora Jade on WWE NXT

Cora Jade is back in Perez’s corner after failing to help her retain the NXT Women’s title. The crowd seemed to have really got on their nerves, causing Bayley and Giulia to call an audible. Watching Bayley tag with Giulia is like watching two different generations of epic performers come together for a rare match.

Miss – Karmen Petrovic vs. Jaida Parker

Another match that ended in controversy. Last night’s WWE NXT featured a lot of run-ins. This seems to be a recurring problem with weekly wrestling shows. Kelani Jordan’s heel turn is nothing but imminent at this point.

Hit – Oba Femi puts away Eddy Thorpe on WWE NXT

Eddy shouldn’t have any more excuses. He did put up a good fight but Oba is just getting started. Thorpe has one of the coolest-looking elbow drops on WWE NXT. The way Oba tosses his opponents is just amazing to watch. With Eddy out of the title picture, it’s only a matter of time before we get to Trick Williams versus Oba Femi for the NXT title.

Honorable Mentions

  • Wes Lee made quick work of Dion Lennox. Seeing Lee back in the ring makes this writer happy. He’s one of the most dependable stars on the WWE NXT roster. I’m looking forward to Lee versus Trick Williams next week.
  • Lexis King and Charlie Dempsey gave another solid match for the NXT Heritage Cup. King struggled with the thought of using the brass knuckles. But the low blow allowed him to retain his championship. Now that’s some character development.
  • Nico shined in his tag team outing alongside Brooks Jensen. The NXT crowd loves The Family. Luca did a great job selling his arm after the brutal bump. Hopefully, the split can lead to solid singles run for Stacks and Luca.
