Jacqueline On Women’s Title Win And Making History: It’s A Memory I’ll Never Forget

Jacqueline has spoken about winning the WWE Women’s Championship, becoming the first black woman to hold the gold.

The WWE legend became the first person to hold the best in three years when she beat Sable to win the title in 1995. The belt had been taken by Medusa and thrown in a trash can during an episode of WCW Monday Nitro, as WWE moved away from women’s wrestling on their show.

They brought it back in 1998 and made Jacqueline the first black woman to hold the title, which dated to The Fabulous Moolah in 1956.

Jacqueline spoke about this honor during an interview with Ring the Belle. She said that she loved the moment, calling it “very special”.

“This was back in 1998, I think — when they brought the title back. Man, people love the moment I wrestled Sable. That was a very special moment for us. Not only did I make history, but I became the first African American Women’s Champion in WWF. That made it even more special.”

“It was a moment I was very happy, very delighted, and it meant a lot to me. It’s a memory I will never forget.”

Jacqueline’s Feud With Crash Holly Inspired Trish Adora To Become A Wrestler

Trish Adora spoke with Warren Hayes on the Warren Hayes Show, revealing that Jacqueline’s rivalry with Crash Holly inspired her to become a wrestler.

Seeing a black woman fighting against some of the toughest men in the WWE was an eye-opener for her. It inspired her and made her feel like she could be a wrestler one day too.

“[The Crash Holly and Jacqueline rivalry] just kinda sparked something in me. I thought that was so cool to just see a black woman having these dope matches, fighting the dudes. I thought that was really cool, especially having five brothers and always having to fend for myself and fight once in a while. I thought that was awesome: ‘I could probably do that someday.’”
