WWE NXT Review: Hits And Misses For January 14

Welcome or welcome back to our weekly WWE NXT hits and misses series. This week’s show featured a tag team title match plus appearances from some main roster stars as well as the reigning TNA Knockouts Champion. Here’s what went down on 1/14 NXT.

Miss – Shotzi pins Stephanie Vaquer on WWE NXT

If this writer is correct, last night marked Stephanie’s first pinfall loss in singles action. They could’ve set up a different finish to protect her undefeated streak. Yes, Fatal Influence’s run-in did lead to a controversial ending but Stephanie should’ve been protected without taking the pin. Let’s see how Stephanie’s loss affects her chances of winning a singles title in WWE NXT because it’s Shotzi vs. Fallon two weeks from tonight.

Hit – Ethan Page makes quick work of Dante Chen

Ethan Page is the best heel on WWE NXT. Losing the NXT Championship seems to have turned Page into a sociopath. First, he rearranged Je’Von’s jaw. Last night, he destroyed Dante Chen’s leg. Speaking of Je’Von, he made a cameo, only to be humbled by All Ego.

Miss – Kelani Jordan fails to beat Cora Jade

Cora Jade vs. Masha Slamovich makes sense if we are going the traditional heel versus babyface route. That said, this writer feels a win here for Kelani would’ve been interesting. Think about it, Kelani is already a former singles champion in NXT. A match with Masha sounds great on paper. Jade would’ve cost Jordan the title leading to a full-blown heel turn for the former NXT Women’s North American Champion.

Hit – Bayley appears on WWE NXT

Roxanne’s promo went way too long. They seemingly had to cut the feed but not before the NXT Universe welcome back Bayley. This feud seems to be NXT’s way of bidding adieu to Perez. There’s a major possibility Perez will cost Bayley her scheduled title match against Tiffany Stratton this Friday on SmackDown.

Honorable Mentions

  • After failing to claim the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship in 2024, Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson are once again in the title picture. The pair beat Unholy Union after a solid match. Alba and Isla are on WWE NXT to elevate the women’s tag division, which is great. Hopefully, Meta Four will bring the tag team titles back to the brand.
  • Axiom and Frazer gave OTM their best match to date. The tag team champions never fail to deliver. DIY watching the match from bird’s nest will probably lead to a clash with Fraxiom, and this writer can’t wait for that to happen.
