A new report provides more information on Penta‘s arrival in WWE.
Former AEW star Penta debuted on the January 13th episode of WWE RAW and defeated Chad Gable. His debut had been teased for weeks, and WWE all but confirmed that he would be Gable’s opponent ahead of the show by promoting his merchandise.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reported an update about Penta’s arrival. Sapp wrote that Penta’s WWE deal had been finalized for weeks, after his AEW contract expired on December 1. The report noted that Penta was originally slated to team up with Rey Mysterio and face The New Day, but the plan was changed. Sapp cited sources who claimed that the merchandise release ahead of the debut was a “happy accident”.
Per Sapp, Penta was backstage throughout the day, and he was not hidden. Sapp also confirmed PWInsider‘s report that Penta’s segment went over time, as his promo went longer than expected. The report noted that it was unclear whether this led to other thing segments being cut.
