Mercedes Moné: Eating Chicken Wings Got Me ‘Star Wars’ Role

Mercedes Moné explained how eating chicken wings secured her a role in The Mandalorian.

She was given the role during her time in the WWE as Sasha Banks, although the WWE tried their best to make her drop out. The TBS Champion appeared in five episodes of the Star Wars show, portraying the Mandalorian character called Koska Reeves.

While it was a small role, it was a huge achievement for somebody in the wrestling business. It gave her a new-found popularity that has carried over with her into AEW.

Mercedes Moné spoke with Sherri Sheppard and revealed the details behind her getting a role in The Mandalorian. She credited eating chicken wings as what got her in, as director Jon Favreau saw her on Hot Ones and offered to write her a part in the show.

“I was eating chicken wings—doing this show called Hot Ones. Jon Favreau, the creator and founder of The Mandalorian, was watching it, and he slid into my DMs. He said, ‘I really liked you on Hot Ones. I loved your personality and would love to write a role for you on The Mandalorian.'”

“I was like, ‘What? Eating chicken wings?'” Mercedes Moné said. “I went back to watch that interview, and I don’t know what he saw in me—but I’m so thankful he saw something. He must have seen me sweating or something natural within me. I don’t know!”

Mercedes Moné Reveals She Had A Panic Attack Before Wrestle Dynasty

Mercedes Moné was a bundle of nerves before her Tokyo Dome in-ring debut at Wrestle Dynasty.

In the latest issue of the MonéMag, Mercedes Moné wrote about her recent experience in Japan for Wrestle Dynasty, revealing she had a panic attack prior to her match with Mina Shirakawa in the Tokyo Dome.

“One of the lines Advocate Kev says to Team-Moné on our various trips is: ‘We’re gonna make history…AGAIN!’ Though I have nerves and butterflies for all my big matches, my match at the Tokyo Dome against Mina was somehow different,” Mercedes Moné wrote. “From the moment I landed in Japan, where I actually bawled my eyes out with both disbelief and gratitude, to the morning of the event, where I had an actual panic attack, making history was the last thing on my mind.

“Kev could see my condition on the bus ride and asked: ‘Are you nervous or just excited?’ I replied, ‘Both.’ Truly, it was my lifelong dream to have a match at this level at the Tokyo Dome, so I was beyond excited. Along with the rich wrestling history, I feel as though, in some strange way, Japan, like Mexico, is another home. Yet, for all my joy, I was likewise petrified.

“I didn’t want to let the promoters down, I didn’t want to let the fans down, I didn’t want to let Mina down. I especially, and as always, didn’t want to let the women wrestlers of today AND tomorrow down, I want New Japan, and all promotions, globally, for that matter, to know that we female athletes deserve prominent recognition and a prominent place on the card.”
