Oba Femi wants to wrestle WWE’s top talent but has an obligation to help build NXT.
The Nigerian star recently won the NXT Championship for the first time. He beat Trick Williams for the title at NXT New Years Evil, in a match that also included Eddy Thorp.
Oba Femi appeared on Busted Open Radio, where he was asked about some dream matches on the main roster. He named Gunther, John Cena and Randy Orton as stars he’d love to face.
However, he made it clear that he has an obligation to NXT as their champion. Oba Femi wants to elevate NXT as the third brand with him on top.
“As far as dream matches go, I’ve said this on record before—I’d love to wrestle Gunther, John Cena, and Randy Orton. Those guys are incredible. But the fact that I’m carrying this [the NXT Championship] on my shoulder right now means I have an obligation to NXT. I’m carrying the brand, and the person who carries the brand should carry the brand.” Oba Femi said.
“As much as I’d love to go up there and have those matches, my focus is on NXT right now. I want to elevate NXT to the level where it’s seen as a third brand—not just developmental. Even though technically it is and will continue to be, I believe the caliber of talent here in NXT is strong enough to compete with the main roster itself.”
“With me at the forefront, it feels perfect—the ruler, the destroyer, the one leading the charge. This is my responsibility now,” added NXT Champion Oba Femi.
Oba Femi Comments On Winning NXT Championship
Oba Femi says it’s time to back up everything he has said.
Femi’s NXT career reached a new high at NXT New Year’s Evil. He won the NXT Championship by defeating Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe in a Triple Threat Match.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Oba Femi was asked to comment on what was going through his head when he won the title. He stated that it was time to back up what he had said.
“At that moment, as soon as the three count hit, I realized in my head, I’m like, okay, now it’s time to back up everything I’ve said,” Femi said. “Destiny, ruler, athlete, it’s time to back everything up. Everybody wants to be in the spot, and then they get there and they coast. So right now, my objective is to prove everyone that believed in me and trusted in me that their product is in good hands.”
