Triple H: WWE Contemplated Moving WWE RAW Off Mondays On Netflix

Triple H revealed that the WWE did consider moving Raw from its Monday night spot after moving to Netflix.

The show has been shown on Monday night, with very few exceptions, every week since its debut on January 11th, 1993. It will leave TV for the first time tonight when it is broadcast on Netflix. However, Raw continuing on Monday was not always guaranteed.

Triple H revealed in an interview with Jimmy Traina for Sports Illustrated that there was consideration to move the show to a different night on Netflix.

He revealed that all options were considered, including the 30-year history of the brand on Monday nights. He added that NFL on Monday was not so much a factor. This is due to the global nature of the WWE being broadcast in countries where the NFL is not a big deal.

Triple H added that if needs be, the company can move to another night much easier now they are partnered with Netflix.

Triple H On Moving Raw From Mondays On Netflix

“One of the things I think is working best right now is the brilliant team at WWE. Whether it’s Nick, Lee, or many others, we’re all looking at things and asking: what’s the best way to do it? Forget what we have or what’s already on the table. Let’s look at it with fresh eyes. ‘If we were building this today from the ground up, what would we do, and how would we do it?’ Then we take everything we know, factor in the whys and the hows, and see what works and what doesn’t.” Triple H said.

“So, Monday night was absolutely contemplated. Is that a move off Mondays? Does it stay on Mondays? But you also have to consider the 30-plus-year tradition and habit of Monday Night Raw. That’s a big factor, along with the business model and everything else. But I’m a big believer that you can work around all of those things.”

“We weighed everything out, as we always do, and, with the input of our partners, determined what was best. At this time, staying on Mondays is what made the most sense. Now, I guess with Netflix. Versus a cable network, if you decide in six months, nine months, a year, or two years that you want to move to another night, it’s much easier to do that with Netflix than with a traditional network. You have that flexibility.” Added Triple H

“Also, understanding the global nature of WWE and Netflix is key. Yes, Monday nights are competing with the NFL in the U.S. But that’s not a factor in much of the rest of the world. There were a lot of factors that went into the decision, and it was heavily weighted, but ultimately we’re confident in what’s best for now.”
