Happy Holidays: Gabby Forza & Maya World Reveal Their Top Christmas Movies

Tis the season to be jolly and enjoy some Christmas cinema.

With the holiday season upon us, WrestleZone’s Ella Jay recently caught up with two of the indies fastest rising stars for their takes on festive music, decorations, and of course, movies. For ROW Women’s Tag Team Champion Maya World, a trio of early 2000s classics stand out. Gabby Forza, also known as “Your Homie The Gnomie,” on the other hand, finds herself drawn to spooky cinema.

“I’m a big movie person, but I’m also child,” Forza said. “Nightmare Before Christmas, and it’s not a Christmas movie but Corpse Bride also because it’s snowing, it counts. So I’d say those are my two favorite Christmas movies even though they’re not really Christmas-y. I love that time of year and if it’s Christmas that’s fine, it’s like a backstory.”

“There’s this amazing, it’s a scary movie, it’s a Christmas movie,” Forza continued. “That’s kind of my genre. If it’s scary and Christmas, love it. If there’s a gnome in it, perfect. There’s Something in the Barn, it’s a scary Christmas movie about gnomes.”

According to Forza, the 2023 horror comedy is the perfect encapsulation of her love for Christmas, spook, and like her nickname suggests, gnomes. There’s Something in the Barn follows the story of an American family moving to their ancestral family farm in Norway. Upon this arrival, though, they encounter something surprising in the barn, namely murderous gnomes.

“Gnomes are not the enemy in this movie,” Forza said. “You can clearly tell it’s not them, but they’re the villains. If you see it, you’ll get it. Gnomes treat people how they’re treated, so if the gnome is being mistreated, it’s going to turn it up like crazy and kill your dog but not because they want to, it’s because you need them.

Maya World Loves The Classics

Maya World is a fan of classic Christmas films, with the foremost being the 2004 fantasy adventure of The Polar Express.

“I would always say number one [Christmas film], Polar Express. I love Polar Express,” World said. “Let me think. Number two, I love ELF. It’s the funniest thing ever. Oh, I love the Grinch or How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Home Alone [1] is definitely in my top five also.”
