Sumie Sakai Retirement Match Set For NJPW Battle In The Valley

Sumie Sakai will compete in her retirement match at NJPW Battle in the Valley.

Following NJPW Strong Style Evolved, Sumie Sakai spoke with Hiromu Takahashi backstage and challenged him to a six-person match at NJPW Battle in the Valley. This will be Sakai’s last match. Their tag team partners were not named.

Sumie Sakai debuted in 2007 and wrestled in Japan for the next several years. She then started competing in the United States. Sakai had two stints in Ring of Honor; she was the inaugural Women of Honor World Champion. Elsewhere, she has won titles in All Japan Women’s Pro-Wrestling, DDT Pro-Wrestling, and other companies. Sakai has also competed in several MMA fights.

NJPW also set up two title matches for NJPW Battle in the Valley during NJPW Strong Style Evolved. NJPW Strong Openweight Champion Gabe Kidd challenged Tomohiro Ishii to face him. Plus, Rocky Romero challenged West Coast Wrecking Crew to defend the NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championship against him and YOH.
