Report: Update On WWE Potentially Using Winged Eagle Title

WWE has heavily teased the return of the WWE Winged Eagle Title. A new report provides an update.

Triple H and WWE posted a video in which the WWE Chief Content Officer gave Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes a gift ahead of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. Given Rhodes’ past comments about wanting to bring the Winged Eagle Title back, fans have speculated that the present is the classic title.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that there have been discussions within WWE about using the Winged Eagle Title. The report notes that Cody Rhodes has pushed for it.

Sapp also writes several talent have mentioned bringing back classic titles. Rhodes has been the most vocal.

Rhodes is set to defend his title against Kevin Owens at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.

Cody Rhodes On Winged Eagle Title

Speaking with GQ Sports in August, Cody Rhodes made it clear that he was trying to find a way to bring the Winged Eagle Title back. He highlighted the legacy of the title. Rhodes then noted that he was linked to the new championship.

“I am fond of the Winged Eagle, which is the title from the 1990s,” he said. “Hulk Hogan wore it, Ultimate Warrior wore it, Ric Flair wore it, Bret Hart wore it. And I am actively trying to find a way to get that into the WWE world. But this is also the title that was around Roman Reigns’ waist the night I beat him. There’s a part of that that makes me more linked to this look and this aesthetic for a WWE Championship than ever.”
