Ricochet has his eyes set on beating Zack Sabre Jr for the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.
The AEW star made his long-awaited return to the company at Power Struggle. He attacked Zack Sabre Jr, challenging him to a match at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th.
If he retains the title against Shota Umino at Wrestle Kingdom the night before, Zack Sabre Jr will put his world title on the line. That is something Ricochet is hoping for as he makes his return to New Japan Pro wrestling.
Ricochet recently spoke to NJPW in an interview posted to their YouTube channel. The AEW star spoke about returning to the company, calling it a “second home” for him. He said the reaction to his return was “awesome” and that there is nothing like being in a New Japan ring.
“Just to be back in a New Japan Pro Wrestling ring felt great. Hearing the fans when they saw me jump into the ring was awesome too. In general, being back here in New Japan is just awesome.
“Japan has been like a second home to me for a long, long time, and New Japan has always been one of the biggest and best promotions out there. It’s so good to finally be back, to do what I love, and to hear the fans so excited and happy that I’m back. It was awesome. There’s nothing like being in that New Japan Pro Wrestling ring,” Ricochet said.
Ricochet Wants To Become IWGP World Heavyweight Champion
As he continued, Ricochet spoke about facing Zack Sabre Jr. He called the champion one of the best wrestlers in the world and said he is at the very top of the business. However, that means he has something Ricochet wants and will try to take from him at Wrestle Dynasty.
“I think my purpose is the same as everyone who comes to New Japan: to be the best. Right now, Zack Sabre Jr. holds the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Like I said yesterday, the person holding that title is regarded as one of the best wrestlers on the planet, and I came back to remind everyone that I am one of the best wrestlers on this planet.”
“To be honest, Zack is special to me. He’s a friend I’ve known for a long time. But at the end of the day, we both know this is a business. He’s at the top of the business right now, holding that IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.”
“Yes, we’re friends. Yes, we have a great history. We’ve traveled the world together—all across America, Europe, Germany, Australia, and even here in Japan. But this is still a business, and he has something I want. I’m going to show everyone who Ricochet really is. I’m going to show them what I’m capable of because I know that I’m very exciting.”
