Jim Ross has swapped the wrestling ring for the football field in his latest gig.
The AEW commentator is one of the most iconic announcers in wrestling history. His work in the WWE in the Attitude Era in particular earned him worldwide acclaim.
Over the years, Jim Ross has gone on to cover promotions like WWE, AEW, NJPW and WCW. His voice has become iconic and instantly recognizable for all manner of people all over the world.
However, Jim Ross has traded AEW for the NFL as he provided the voiceover for the cold open for the Detroit Lions versus Green Bay Packers on Thursday night.
The WWE Hall of Famer Tweeted out on Wednesday revealing his involvement with the NFL. Jim Ross said “If you’re watching @PrimeVideo tonight for the @Lions vs @packers showdown check out the cold open that I voiced over this morning.”, although he mixed up the days and should have said “tomorrow”.
Then last night, he Tweeted out the video of his voiceover for the NFL. He spoke about both team’s chances in the match and what a win and loss would do for each team. He ended it by saying that the match would be “one hell of a slobberknocker”, taking his catchphrase from the world of wrestling.
“Not only the “Voice Of Professional Wrestling” now the “Voice Of Professional Football” @JRsBBQ is a national treasure.”
Jim Ross Believes Chris Jericho Is An MVP Of AEW
On the latest episode of Grilling JR, the All Elite Wrestling commentator spoke about how he believes Chris Jericho is an MVP of the company.
“He’s an MVP in my view at AEW, without question,” Jim Ross said. “There’s just no doubt about that. I love working with him and I love seeing how he works with other talents and they listen to him because he’s been there and done that. That’s important to me. That’s where they get their learning. He’s a very valuable asset to the company, he can always go out and have a great match as a baby face or a heel.
“He can work with anybody and make them look better than they actually are. Even though he’s not a spring chicken, he stays in great shape. He’s a keeper. If Tony Khan is smart, and he is, Chris is going to be a part of the company for the foreseeable future for a long time to come. I do think that somewhere down the road when he and Tony Khan make the decision to say that’s enough, that he’ll get a send-off like Sting’s in that sense, a special occasion and a big-time deal. I just don’t think it’s anytime soon.” [H/T: WrestlingNews.Co]
