Triple H On Fans Not Predicting The New Day’s Heel Turn: When You Can Get There, It’s Wonderful

Triple H reacts to the dramatic segment surrounding The New Day.

The New Day’s 10-year anniversary celebration took a shocking turn this week when Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods evicted Big E from their group, despite his offer to move forward as their manager. According to Woods and Kingston, if Big E truly cared about them, he would have reunited with them much sooner. As such, the former two now plan to move forward without him.

During a recent panel discussion hyping up WWE’s move to Netflix, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque shared his reaction to The New Day’s heel turn from a creative standpoint.

“Everybody online and our fans and people we talk to around the world are trying to predict… It’s no different than going to a movie,” Levesque said (H/T Sports Illustrated for the transcription). “Like, that guy did it. I know he did it. I know that guy did it. And then it blows your mind when it wasn’t him, it was somebody else, right? This was one that I didn’t see anybody, anywhere calling the direction it was going to go in. And that was sort of the plan for a very long period of time. When you can get there, it’s wonderful.”

Triple H Is All For Creating Moments

When asked about his own investment into WWE’s storylines, Levesque again referenced the unforeseen path taken by The New Day on WWE Raw on this week — one that elicited flabbergasted responses from the WWE Universe.

“I was so happy for those guys. We couldn’t have comically asked for a better shot of somebody selling that storyline for us,” Levesque said in reference to a shot of a fan placing his hands on his head in utter shock.

“It’s those moments. It’s why we do what we do. It’s that moment when you’re in the ring and Rock says it all the time. It’s that electricity, that connection with the people. There’s no greater feeling than that. When we can get that in front of 10,000, 70,000, it doesn’t matter what it is, we’ll get it around the globe on Netflix. Those moments are why we do what we do and invest and pay that off to fans who have been watching week in, week out.”
