WWE Survivor Series: WarGames Review

Welcome to our WWE Survivor Series: WarGames Review where we look back at all the action and drama that went down in Canada this past Saturday.

The five-match card featured superstars from both RAW and SmackDown. As far as match stipulation goes, three bouts had titles on the line with the Men and Women’s WarGames matches filling the remaining spot.

Now that we’ve given you some basic info, let’s get to our Survivor Series: WarGames Review.

Women’s WarGames Match

Stipulation: Five-on-five

Faces: Bayley, Bianca Belair, Iyo Sky, Naomi & Rhea Ripley

Heels: Candice LeRae, Liv Morgan, Nia Jax, Tiffany Stratton & Raquel Rodriguez

Analysis: This was a solid opener with some really good spots that had the crowd on their feet. This writer was pleased to see Jax cause mayhem in this match after witnessing her underwhelming booking on the road to WarGames. There were plenty of botches as well such as IYO missing the sunset flip powerbomb on Candice in the first attempt. Tiffany’s cash-in tease was some good stuff. Rhea getting up after taking multiple baseball bat shots to the abdomen proved wearing a mask will make you Batman. (Kidding, don’t try this at home folks.)

IYO’s trash can fall has become a WarGames staple at this point. Tiffany’s moonsault was a great spot as well. Liv took one hell of a riptide through a table. Great effort by all the ladies!

United States Title Match at WWE Survivor Series

Stipulation: One-on-one

Face champion: LA Knight

Heel challenger: Shinsuke Nakamura

Analysis: Nakamura’s new theme sounds really good. The match outcome, however, had the writer questioning Triple H’s booking. No offense to Shin but it feels like WWE took away all the momentum from Knight just when they had the opportunity to solidify his title run. Still, this writer tips his hat to Knight for providing some really great moments and matches during his title reign. As far as in-ring action goes: this was weakest match of the night. The obvious question: where does Knight go from here next?

Intercontinental Championship Match at WWE Survivor Series

Stipulation: Triple threat

Tweener champion: Bron Breakker

Face challenger: Sheamus

Heel challenger: Ludwig Kaiser

Analysis: Just brilliant from all three men involved. Sheamus can proudly say he gave the WWE Universe another banger at WWE Survivor Series. Bron is a human freight train. WWE needs to do a sprint contest between Bron and Nathan Frazer. Kaiser stood out with his character and in-ring work. He’s going to be a major heel player one day. As far as in-ring action goes, the three-way dance is this writer’s pick for the match of the night.

World Heavyweight Championship Match at WWE Survivor Series

Stipulation: One-on-one

Heel champion: Gunther

Face challenger: Damian Priest

Analysis: This was a solid display of technical wrestling from both men at the beginning. The arm drags and the headlocks looked good. Gunther can make anybody look good. This writer hopes he won’t have to eat his words when we (possibly) get Gunther versus Goldberg. Priest’s selling of the shoulder was great. The chops and the lariats looked painful. Gunther flattening Balor even though he provided some major distraction was hilarious. Might as well set up a triple threat between these three men.

Men’s WarGames Match

Stipulation: Five-on-five

Faces: CM Punk, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Roman Reigns & Sami Zayn

Heels: Bronson Reed, Jacob Fatu, Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga & Tonga Loa

Analysis: Jey entering through the crowd was a great sight. The YEET Master is super over. Punk and Reigns gave the ultimate meme with their pose inside the shark cage. Canada loves Jacob Fatu. Jacob Fatu no-selling Punk’s tool box strike was a solid spot. The drama got even better with all 10 men in the ring. Reed is a mad man for taking the bump from the top.

Speaking of bumps, Jey broke his toe with the splash. The injury bug bit both men; which is truly unfortunate. The final moments of the match prompted this writer to press replay after it was over. Such good storytelling and what a way to cap off the night!
