QT Marshall discusses the Diamond Cutter.
While his in-ring career may now be in the rearview mirror, the spirit (or at least part) of Diamond Dallas Page continues to live on through QT Marshall, who’s adopted his popular finishing maneuver known as the Diamond Cutter. On the latest episode of Hey! (EW), Marshall explained how his usage of the Diamond Cutter came to be. Marshall also noted that a former AEW World Champion was denied the opportunity to use it.
“[DDP] called me one day and said ‘Hey, I think [you should use the Diamond Cutter],’ because I didn’t have a finish. I did, but someone else was using it, long story short. So I said ‘Yeah, I’ll do it,’ but I never called it the QT Cutter,” Marshall said. “I actually enjoy when people say the Diamond Cutter that got handed down by Diamond Dallas Page, because people hate it. They hate that of all the professional wrestlers in the world, he chose me. So I want to keep putting that out to the world.
“For those fans out there watching, DDP chose me. It could’ve been MJF, could’ve been anyone else. He chose me. In fact, MJF asked for it and he said no.”
At AEW Dynamite: Bash at the Beach 2020, DDP, Marshall, Dustin Rhodes battled MJF as well as The Butcher and The Blade, with DDP landing a Diamond Cutter on both MJF and The Butcher. Ultimately, MJF’s team emerged victorious thanks to a roll-up on Marshall. This match would also serve as the last match of DDP’s career.
