Seth Rollins credits being an era of babyfaces as a reason for the current WWE boom period.
Since WrestleMania 40, the focus of the show has been on the new WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. This followed nearly four years of Roman Reigns as the world champion, dominating the top of the card.
Seth Rollins appeared on The Pivot and spoke about the current WWE boom period. He noted that now Cody Rhodes is on top, the company is in an “era of babyfaces”. He also named stars like Randy Orton and Sami Zayn.
“Some of our bigger booms have been with face champions.” Seth Rollins said. “You look at the last four years. Roman Reigns has kind of been the guy as the Tribal Chief, right? He’s been just the biggest heel among heels.”
“But right now, we’re riding with Cody Rhodes, who dethroned him at WrestleMania this past year, and we’re sort of in this era of baby faces, if you will. You’ve got guys like myself, Cody, Randy Orton, and Sami Zayn. And now Roman’s back as a baby face, so we’ve got this era where everything is just clicking, and people are loving so much of what’s going on.” Seth Rollins said.
“I’m looking around, and I’m kind of thinking, ‘Oh man, we’re missing some good heels around here—you know, we’re missing some good ones.’ But the business is cyclical, and you just have to ride the waves that are given to you and figure out how to make the most money you can off of that.”
“You look at the past—you look at guys like Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, and Sammartino. A lot of the biggest box office has been built on top baby faces.” Seth Rollins added.
