Shawn Michaels Didn’t Think He’d Enjoy Anything As Much As Wrestling, But NXT Is ‘Infectious’

Shawn Michaels didn’t think he could enjoy anything as much as wrestling until he began to work with NXT.

The Heart Break Kid retired from wrestling in 2010, only returning for one ill-fated bout in Saudi Arabia in 2018. That year, he joined NXT as a writer and producer before taking over the reins of the brand after Triple H suffered heart issues in 2021.

Shawn Michaels appeared on Going Ringside and compared his work with NXT to his incredible in-ring career. The WWE Hall of Famer revealed that he never thought he could enjoy anything as much as wrestling, but he’s found his work in NXT “infectious”.

“I didn’t think that I could enjoy anything else more than my time in the ring. I loved being out there and performing a great deal. But then, when I stepped into the Performance Center ten years ago, the feeling of being around all these young men and women. Their passion, their desire to succeed in WWE—was something infectious.”

“Now, I think I have a wonderful relationship with a lot of our talent. I love the idea of trying to give them some of the moments and memories that I was allowed to experience. I know what it did for me personally and professionally.”

“Today, we have an entire team here in NXT doing everything we can to help our talent. Right now, it’s about creating memories in NXT. But the goal is to get them to a place where they can have their own WrestleMania moment.”
