Anthony Bowens was once a Luchador.
Long before he signed with All Elite Wrestling, Anthony Bowens climbed through the rankings of the independent wrestling scene, with notable appearances in WrestlePro, Pro Wrestling Syndicate, and Battle Club Pro. An up-and-coming Bowens also once appeared under the guise of a Luchador.
In a new Twitter post, Bowens recalled his role in a 2017 commercial, specifically promoting Lunchables. Set in an elementary school gym class, Bowens, dressed in yellow Luchador gear and mask, can be seen fighting a platypus and a jackalope (mixture of a rabbit and antelope) as an educational demonstration of wrestling. Ultimately, the platypus and jackalope take down Bowens with a stomp to his foot and a dive off the basketball rim.
“Now, that’s wrestling!” the gym teacher enthusiastically declares. Meanwhile, the students are eagerly watching on as they consume a Lunchables meal.
Finally, the platypus and the jackalope, with a championship strapped around their waist, dismiss the gym class while Bowens recovers from his beatdown in the background.
Aside from the 2017 Lunchables commercial, Bowens has also appeared in commercials for Domino’s and P.C. Richard. Fast forward to 2024, Bowens is now a regular fixture in AEW, with two major title reigns to his name. Aside from holding the AEW World Tag Team Championships with Max Caster, Bowens is also a former AEW Trios Champion alongside Caster and Billy Gunn. Together, Caster and Bowens formed The Acclaimed.
