AEW WrestleDream is officially in the books.
All Elite Wrestling presented the second annual WrestleDream from Washington’s Tacoma Doma. The show featured 13 matches, four of which took place on the Zero Hour pre-show. Brian Cage defeated Atlantis Jr. for the ROH World Television Championship on the Zero Hour.

Adam Page vs. Jay White at AEW WrestleDream

This was a solid opener between two former members of The Bullet Club. Page and White delivered a hard-hitting match-up. White took a nasty powerbomb on the steel steps. Page’s selling of the dragon screw was underwhelming. The Buckshot counter into the Blade Runner was smooth.
Mariah May (c) vs. Willow Nightingale – AEW Women’s World Championship

This match clearly suffered from time constraints. Mariah and Willow genuinely needed more than 10 minutes to tell their story. Some spots were decent. The ending felt rushed. Let’s see who shows up next to step up to AEW Women’s World Champion.
Jack Perry (c) vs. Katsuyori Shibata – AEW TNT Championship

Shibata seems to have bad luck when it comes to matches at AEW WrestleDream. He’s now 0-2 at the PPV, which was created in honor of his late mentor Antonio Inoki. The ending felt a bit off. Shibata’s shoulders were clearly not on the mat when Perry pinned him. Hopefully, the controversial conclusion will lead to a rematch somewhere down the line.

Daniel Garcia was the third wheel in Ospreay versus MJF. He’s now the third wheel in Cole versus MJF. AEW needs to put DG in a title program against Perry ASAP. This was teased at WrestleDream when Garcia came to Shibata’s aid. They shouldn’t fumble Garcia’s push this time.
Will Ospreay (c) vs. Ricochet vs. Konosuke Takeshita – AEW International Championship

When you have three elite performers, the match is bound to be a classic. This was a classic with tons of brilliant spots. The only downside to this match I could think of was the way Takeshita won the title. He could’ve pinned Ospreay without Fletcher’s unnecessary heel turn . On the bright side, Takeshita finally has a title around his waist. Could this lead to a title unification match with Okada? I hope.
Business talk ft. Swerve Strickland, Prince Nana, MVP, and Shelton Benjamin

They are sticking with Swerve as a babyface. That’s cool. Swerve versus Shelton Benjamin seems to be the direction before we see Bobby Lashley in AEW. Speaking of Lashley, The Almighty has reportedly put pen to paper on his AEW contract, and it’s presumably only a matter of time before he joins his former Hurt Business associates in Tony Khan’s promotion.
Hologram vs. Beast Mortos – 2 Out of 3 Falls

This match would’ve made for a great Rampage main event instead of AEW WrestleDream where putting matches with high stakes makes sense. The action was spectacular. There’s absolutely no denying that but the live fans were almost too tired by the time Hologram and Beast Mortos had their turn.
Darby Allin vs. Brody King at AEW WrestleDream

AEW did a damn good job with how they booked Darby vs. Brody. Darby took some brutal punishment from the big man. Darby reminds me a lot of Spike Dudley with how reliable he is at making his opponent look like a million bucks. Brody falling to the Coffin Drop after taking one on the steel steps was a great conclusion to the match.
Young Bucks (c) vs. Private Party – AEW World Tag Team Championship

Solid tag team stuff from both teams. Private Party had all the momentum going into the match. The near falls and false finishes added to the suspense. The Bucks won the match but Private Party won the crowd over with their performance. Hopefully, this isn’t the end of tag team title chase for Zay and Quen.
Mark Briscoe (c) vs. Chris Jericho – ROH World Championship

The first half was fun until too much outside interference ruined it for me. The tribute to Jay from Mark was a nice touch. Jericho needs to distance himself from the ROH title picture and let Big Bill or Bryan Keith go after it.
Bryan Danielson (c) vs. Jon Moxley – AEW World Championship

Bryan Danielson’s 48-day title run came to end, courtesy of his former friend Mox. This match seemed like an underwhelming end to Danielson’s full-time career. For a man who went through hell to fight and keep the title, the AEW WrestleDream main event looked like it was missing Danielson’s fire. Yuta’s turn was imminent. Let’s see if the AEW landscape changes without Danielson… or if this is the last we actually see of him in AEW.
