Charli Evans looks ahead to PWA Colosseum.
Charli Evans has a tall task ahead of her as she soon challenges long-reigning PWA Heavyweight Champion and long-time friend Jessica Troy for the title at PWA Colosseum. Beyond that, though, Evans faces the possibility of wrestling up to two more times this weekend as well.
At Colosseum, Troy and Evans will battle over the PWA Heavyweight Championship. This specific title match comes with an added layer, though, as it also serves as a first-round matchup in the 2024 PWA Colosseum tournament. As Evans points out, whoever emerges victorious in this opener will then go on to defend the title through the rest of the tournament, meaning there is a possibility that neither Troy nor Evans walks out of the tournament with the title. Troy and Evans faceoff in night one’s main event on October 12, with night two unfolding on October 13.
During an interview with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, Evans opened up about the dynamics of their upcoming match.
“It is probably the most important match of my career so far,” Evans said. “It has just written itself. It’s like ten years in the making and I don’t want to put pressure on it. I haven’t been thinking about it too much because I don’t want to put that pressure on it, because I feel like people have an expectation of us, which is fine, which is great, but it is like a love letter to each other, to our story, our friendship. It’s like ten years [in the making].
“It’s beautiful, too, because so many people have watched us like so many PWA fans, even new people, have watched us grow from kids to women that are main-eventing the biggest show in this country. And if you’re a wrestler in Australia and your goal is not Colosseum, that’s f***ing insane to me. It’s the show of shows. If you get recognized for Colosseum, that’s a big deal. It’s her third time in it. It’s my second time in it. And I really do think we have something to prove, especially with how strong the whole card is. The fact that we’re main-eventing, we absolutely have a chip on our shoulder and something to prove going out there.”
