Trios Match Kicks Off the Night

The Elite vs. Katsuyori Shibata & Private Party

Things started off in chaos, with Shibata landing a big boot to Jack Perry, while Private Party took to working over the Young Bucks outside of the ring via a big dive over the ropes. Eventually, things fell apart and all six men began fighting at once, and The Elite were able to get the upper hand after hitting DDTs onto Private Party on the outside of the ring. Later in the match, Kassidy hit Perry with a big splash and Private Party followed it up with the Gin and Juice, but the Young Bucks stopped a pinfall from happening. The Young Bucks nearly stole a win after hitting the EVP Trigger, but got too cocky going for the TK Driver, which allowed Marq Quen to roll up Matthew for the win.

Grade: B

A pretty solid start to the night, and good to see the Young Bucks in action any time. Private Party continues to be one of the most entertaining groups in the company, and it’ll be interesting to see what they get to do next.

Kris Statlander Says It’s a New Era

In a backstage interview, Statlander said that it’s a new era for her, and she’s all on her own again, but that won’t stop her from being the biggest and baddest star. Unfortunately for her, before she could finish it, Kamille interrupted her, followed by Mercedes Moné, who talked some trash.

Kamille Takes Zoey Lynn to Task

Kamille vs. Zoey Lynn

This one was over pretty much immediately, and Kamille walked out on top with a win within just a few seconds.

Grade: C

It’s hard to rate any sort of squash match like this, but this was a good match for Kamille to prove to the rest of the company that she’s not going to go easy on anyone.

Deonna Purrazzo & Taya Valkyrie Have a Code

In a vignette, Purrazzo and Valkyrie described their new group, and its code. According to the pair, they will be bound together by the code they have, which is that wanting respect requires giving it. Those who refuse will have to have respect beaten into them.

Queen Aminata & Harley Cameron Go At It

Queen Aminata vs. Harley Cameron

Aminata and Cameron started things off with a brutal back and forth, as Cameron dropped Aminata with a quick knee and then began taunting her by rubbing her face across her chest. Aminata worked herself back into the match, though, and dropped Harley with a big punch. Later in the match, she was able to drop Cameron fully with a massive Queen’s Crown headbutt for the pin and win.

After the match, Serena Deeb appeared and attacked Aminata, working at her leg throughout the assault. Britt Baker came running out to help, though, and with a steel chair in hand, she ran Deeb out of the ring.

Grade: B

Aminata continues to look incredibly dominant in every match she takes part in. The ambush afterward was also a nice touch, and sets up a good potential feud between the pair.

Orange Cassidy & Kyle O’Reilly Get to Work

Orange Cassidy & Kyle O’Reilly vs. Big Bill & Bryan Keith

The closing match of the night saw Chris Jericho on hand for commentary, and things started with Big Bill mocking Cassidy by stuffing his hands in his pocket. Cassidy responded by not responding, and letting Bill chase him around the ring before he rolled out. O’Reilly eventually tagged himself in, and then promptly got himself out of the ring to continue mocking Bill. Bill was clearly unhappy with what was happening, and tried chasing after them to no end.

After some back and forth of this, Keith tagged himself in and laid a big slap on O’Reilly’s face. Kyle then began charging around the ring trying to get Keith. Finally, Big Bill got involved, tagging back in later and getting to drop Cassidy and O’Reilly into the corner. Cassidy got taken down to the mat with a big slam, and Bill then hit a vicious knee strike onto Keith. After a two count on Orange from Keith, Cassidy was able to throw him out of the ring and then got to work taking down Bill. O’Reilly got Keith down in an ankle lock, but just as Keith was tapping out, Chris Jericho ran down to distract the referee.

With Jericho interfering the match, Rocky Romero came down and sent him into the steel steps, but was promptly taken down by Bill. Inside the ring, Cassidy and O’Reilly surprised Keith with a high/low hit for the pin and win.

Grade: B+

By far the most entertaining match of the night, Cassidy and O’Reilly really showed off some awesome stuff in the ring. The early shenanigans was a fun touch, and once things got going it was good to see them take the match seriously. The Romero/Jericho ending wasn’t exactly how you want to see a match like this end, but overall it was a solid bout.

AEW Rampage Review

Grade: B-

All things considered, this week of Rampage was pretty good. The show continues to be a mixed bag in terms of what types of matches you’ll see week-in-and-week-out, but when the highs are high, this continues to be one of the better shows to check out every week.
