Newly crowned NXT Champion Trick Williams is eyeing a match with another notable (former) champion.
On the CW Network debut of WWE NXT, Williams defeated 18-year veteran Ethan Page to claim his second NXT Championship reign. During a recent interview with Insight With Chis Van Vliet, Williams looked ahead toward the future, specifically to some of his dream matches. In doing so, Williams pointed toward former Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns as a fantasy opponent.
“Roman Reigns. I mean, he’s the top guy in the business right now. I mean, shout out to Cody Rhodes, who is amazing. I’m glad that he finished and started his new story. But Roman, he’s the guy who’s been the cornerstone of the business for a while now. So if you don’t want to match with him, then you don’t really want to be here,” Williams said.
Coming off his loss to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40, Reigns made a surprise return at WWE SummerSlam to help Rhodes defeat Solo Sikoa. Two months later, Rhodes and Reigns are now slated to take on Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at WWE Bad Blood.
Last week, former NXT Champion Ethan Page identified 14-time world champion Randy Orton as his respective dream opponent, in addition to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
