Tony Khan teases that he has an announcement.
AEW CEO Tony Khan took to Twitter to hype up the October 2 episode of AEW Dynamite, which will be the special Five-Year Anniversary episode. He said that the show would have a significant overrun. Khan also teased that he “may have another announcement” by showtime on Wednesday.
AEW has been negotiating a new media rights deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, and an announcement has seemingly been imminent. John Ourand of Puck reported that Warner Bros. Discovery was close to finalizing the deal. Khan himself has repeatedly said that it’s safe to say that AEW was “here to stay” on TBS and TNT.
Tony Khan On AEW’s Future
Khan recently expressed his confidence about AEW’s future in an interview with Dave LeGreca of Busted Open Radio. He said that it was so bright that he needed sunglasses. (H/t Jeremy Lambert of Fightful for the transcription)
“I didn’t bring my sunglasses to the Sirius studio today, but the future is so bright, I need them,” Tony Khan said. “The future is that bright. I know there have been a lot of reports. I have not done any of the leaking. With all due respect to the fine people at the Puck establishment and the Puck people, I didn’t talk to them. I know they have been reporting things that are very interesting. There are a lot of reports and rumors.
“I have not confirmed, and Warner Brothers have not confirmed anything officially. We have a really exciting future there. I can say with 100% certainty, AEW and TBS and TNT are here to stay for a long time.”
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
