WWE RAW Hits And Misses (9/23/24)

Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly WWE RAW hits and misses series.

Last night’s RAW went down at Ontario’s Toyota Center. Featured superstars included Dominik Mysterio, Bron Breakker, Jey Uso, Rhea Ripley, and Gunther.

Here’s what went down on the September 23 episode of Monday Night RAW.

Hit – Opening segment on WWE RAW

Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan kicked off RAW with an in-ring promo. Liv talked about her upcoming world title match against Rhea Ripley at Bad Blood. Mami interrupted her opponent. Rhea said she was medically cleared to compete. Both women traded barbs before Rhea announced a major stipulation to the title match. She then headbutted Liv before leaving the ring to the two love birds.

When was the last time WWE did a match with a shark cage stipulation? James Ellsworth probably knows. The former WWE star tweeted his reaction to the stipulation for the match-up between Liv and Rhea. Don’t worry Dom, you’ve got Ellsworth’s sympathy even if the whole world wants to see you hanging on for your dear life inside that damn cage.

Miss – Dragon Lee vs. Carlito

Dragon Lee took on Carlito in singles action. Lee went airborne after hitting Carlito with a dropkick. Rey Mysterio arrived to prevent The Judgment Day from interfering. Lee picked up the win with a Destino.

LWO versus The Judgment Day needs to come to an end. It seems like creative doesn’t know what else to do with the LWO. Carlito cost Lee his WrestleMania moment and WWE still hasn’t figured out how to do a proper match between the pair.

Hit – Monster mayhem

Braun Strowman literally jumped on Bronson Reed before his match against The Miz. Reed took out the two men with a suicide dive. Both men spend the next few minutes tossing security guys like rag dolls. Strowman teased a dive from the top rope but security escorted Reed to the back.

This feud should’ve been featured at WWE Bad Blood. Both big men absolutely deserved the spot. A Last Monster Standing match on RAW next week seems like a big disservice to the work both men have put inside the ring for the past several weeks.

Miss – Damage CTRL vs. Unholy Union

Damage CTRL took on Unholy Union for a possible shot at the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. The crowd was silent for the most part. IYO SKY’s hot tag brought the WWE Universe to life leading to a double dive finish.

This match got more time than the women’s tag team matches of late. Still, it was decent at best. It appears Triple H has finally heard the criticism towards his booking of the WWE women’s tag team division.

Hit – Jey Uso wins singles title on WWE RAW

Jey Uso and Bron Breakker collided for the fate of the WWE Intercontinental Championship in the main event. The crowd was electric for Main Event Jey. Breakker dominated the early goings of the match with his strength. Both men traded spears. Bron took one onto the barricade. A frog splash later and we got ourselves a new Intercontinental Champion.

Jey Uso finally got a singles title after spending 14 years on the main roster. The Usos may be one of the most decorated tag teams in all of WWE, but Jey deserves every bit of singles success he’s got so far. The reaction of the crowd every time his music hit speaks for itself. Jey gets the title. Let’s see how his reign turns out.

Honorable Mentions

  • Sami Zayn had trouble dealing with Ludig Kaiser on WWE RAW. Gunther came out after the match and faked a title shot. The crowd loved every bit of the swerve. Sami Zayn has been the underdog for years. The gimmick has run its course.
  • Drew McIntyre wasn’t all cocky during his promo last night. It appears the looming threat that is Hell in a Cell has the Scottish Psychopath all tense. McIntyre said the same words Punk said last week. Both men just want to tear each other apart, and I’m all for it.
  • American Made finally got a tag team win over a major team on RAW. Creed Brothers took advantage of the distraction to plant Xavier Woods with their tag team finish. Backstage, Woods picked up a fight with Rey Mysterio. The turn is coming.
