Stephen Amell doesn’t understand why people always underestimate the reach of professional wrestling.
The former Arrow star has been a part of professional wrestling for years now. It started in 2015, when wrestled against Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett in a tag team match at Summerslam 2015.
He went on to wrestle alongside the Bullet Club in Ring of Honor in 2017. This was followed by a match at the original All In, where Stephen Amell faced Christopher Daniels. Additionally, he went on to star as Jake Spade in the Starz drama Heels.
While Stephen Amell has embraced professional wrestling, he notes that not all those in the media understand its scope.
Stephen Amell appeared on Inside of You With Michael Rosenbaum, and spoke about how studio executives underestimate wrestling’s popularity.
With the problems Heels had, being cancelled and struggling to find the right network for the show, he is flabbergasted with how little the higher-ups understand about wrestling, until they actually attend a big WWE event.
“People will always underestimate the scale, scope, and reach of professional wrestling.” Stephen Amell said. “Not just people who wouldn’t have an inclination to watch it. But people who really should know better at this point. Like television executives, studio executives, network executives. They’re constantly like, you’ll bring them to WrestleMania at SoFi or Allegiant Stadium, or they’ll go to a basic event like Raw at Crypto, and they’ll walk in and be like, ‘Wow, a lot of people like professional wrestling!'”
During the show, Amell also said that there is a “framework” for new seasons of Heels, but it does not come without some hurdles.
