Matt Hardy doesn’t think the plastic bag spot at All Out was for the kids in the audience.
At AEW All Out 2024, Jon Moxley and the Blackpool Combat Club turned on Bryan Danielson. Bryan Danielson beat Jack Perry to retain the AEW Championship in the semi-main event of the show.
However, this was not enough for Moxley and company. He choked Danielson with a plastic back, which was a distressing scene.
This seemed to be the end of Danielson’s association with the group. It could lead to a match between Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley in the near future. However, Matt Hardy says that the angle could drive away families from watching the product.
Matt Hardy spoke on the latest episode of The Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy (H/T to WrestlingInc for the transcription) about the plastic bag spot. He remembered a similar spot between Ric Flair and Terry Funk in the past. He added that it was a clear heel turn for Jon Moxley.
However, Matt Hardy noted that parents won’t want kids watching the program after seeing that. AEW will need to be aware of that if they want to retain a family-friendly audience.
“The bag over Bryan’s head, I remember very vividly when Terry Funk did that to Ric Flair.” Matt Hardt said. “It was nostalgic in many ways, and I get that it was supposed to … show that Moxley has turned over this new leaf and he’s cutting out the weak and he has to be this guy who slaughters the weak.”
“I don’t think you’d want your kids to watch that, so if they’re promoting strictly for ‘the sickos’ then have at it. I think it’s gonna be hard to have families who are worried about what their kids are going to be watching.”
