Dave Bautista: There’s Always Temptation To Return, I Won’t Tarnish My Storybook Ending

Dave Bautista (Batista) says his last match at WWE WrestleMania 35 was the perfect way to end his career, and he doesn’t want to tarnish it.

In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Dave Bautista looked back on his last match, where he lost to Triple H. He noted that he wanted to go out on his own terms.

“I didn’t want it to be a big ordeal, I didn’t want to go out and do the tour and give a speech,” he said. “I wanted to have my match, and I wanted it to call it a career, so I wanted to go out on my own terms.”

Dave Bautista continued by saying that he was really proud of the match. He stated that it was a great way to end his career. While he admitted that he missed the crowd, he made it clear that he did not want to tarnish his ending.

“It was great, I’m really proud of it,” he said. “I lost, you gotta go out on your back. It was the way I wanted to go out, it was like a dream for it. It’s so perfect, it’s such a romantic way, and wrestlers don’t get to choose the way they go out. I did. I went out on my own terms, the way I wanted, with the guy I wanted to go out with, and I will never tarnish that.

“It’s not that I don’t miss it. I miss the crowd, I miss the energy of the crowd. I dream about walking out and hearing my entrance music, but I know if I do that, I would just tarnish my storybook ending, and I’m just not willing to do it.”

Dave Bautista: My Time Has Passed

Bautista reiterated that he felt tempted to return, as he missed the energy and the feeling, but he stated that he had to come to terms that his time has passed.

“There’s always temptation [to return] because I miss it, and every time I hear my music, I just want that feeling again,” he said. “It’s like a drug. It fires me up, it’s pure adrenaline. I will never get that anywhere else. I just have to come to terms that my time has passed.
