WWE NXT Hits And Misses (8/27/24)

Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly WWE NXT hits and misses series.

WWE presented the final episode of NXT before No Mercy from the Performance Center. The show featured mostly tag team matches. The NXT-TNA partnership continued as well.

Here’s what went down on 8/27 NXT.

Hit – Fatal Influence vs. Meta-Four

Fatal Influence (Jacy Jayne and Fallon Henley) made their televised debut as a tag team. The pair took on Meta Four’s Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson. Both teams tried to keep each other at arm’s length. Lash Legend took out Jazmyn Nyx with a big boot to the outside. The distraction allowed Jayne and Henley to hit their tag team combo finisher for the win.

A solid tag team match featuring four of the brightest stars on the WWE NXT women’s midcard. Jackson pulled a lot of offense in this match. I’m glad she walked out unharmed after that almost-botched suicide dive. Lash Legend used her size and strength to her advantage. I like Fatal Influence’s tag team finisher.

Miss – Karmen Petrovic vs. Izzi Dame

Petrovic made her entrance followed by Izzi Dame. The powerhouse caught Petrovic mid-air and flattened her with a sit-out spinebuster. Petrovic reversed a crucifix into a roll-up for the win.

There are only one or two bright spots in this match-up. Both ladies will probably get more TV time in the future. Let’s see where they head next.

Hit – Six-person tag team action on WWE NXT

The Family took on NQCC in a six-person tag team action. Tony D’Angelo was at ringside for the match-up. Rizzo and Sinclair forced their way into the ring. The Family picked up the win after Stacks and Luca hit a Shatter Machine on Borne.

A good multi-person affair with some solid spots. Rizzo and Sinclair had some good exchanges. Dempsey and Borne were solid with their limb work on Stacks. Luca continues to impress with. The man knows how to put up a show.

Miss – Kelani Jordan vs. Rosemary

Wendy Choo had TNA’s Rosemary as Kelani Jordan’s surprise opponent. Rosemary got the upper hand on Kelani in the early goings of the match. The NXT Women’s North American Champion got the momentum in the second half before hitting her finisher for the match.

This match stunk. I’m sorry for the harsh criticism, but Kelani and Rosemary a lack of chemistry. That might seem obvious considering they’ve never worked with each other due to being in rival companies, but it looked like Rosemary was struggling to keep up with Kelani’s fast-paced offense. Both women seemed to have difficulty communicating the spots.

Hit – WWE NXT No Mercy main event has a special guest referee

Joe Hendry entered the ring for his concert. The Scotsman roasted Ethan Page’s odd workout wear choices. Page interrupted the concert, but the crowd didn’t let him finish his promo. NXT GM Ava showed up to announce a special guest referee stipulation for the WWE NXT No Mercy main event. Trick Williams arrived to a huge pop. Hendry planted Page with a standing ovation and let Trick count to three. The pair then celebrated inside the ring as the show went off the air.

Hendry did Page dirty with that song. The NXT Champion tried to explain his choice for the workout wear. NXT fans talked all over him. Seeing Trick added into the match was a bit of a surprise. Williams does have unfinished business with Page who won the NXT Champion at Trick’s expense nearly a month ago in that epic fatal four-way at NXT Heatwave.

Honorable Mentions

  • Jaida Parker slapped the taste out of Roxanne Perez during their backstage segment. Miss Parker is super confident ahead of her NXT Women’s Championship match at No Mercy. For those unaware, Parker won a gauntlet to earn a shot at the women’s title.
  • Wes Lee and Zachary Wentz made their match official for WWE NXT No Mercy. Lee was the winner of the promo battle last night. He sounded confident. I don’t why Wentz was constantly moving like he was about to drop a rap on his former MSK partner.
  • Joe Coffey and Je’Von Evans had a really good scrap. Coffey’s rugged style meshed well with Evans’ high-flying capabilities. Evans threw some punches on Coffey. Mark Coffey ate a flying cutter for his brother. Coffey picked up the win following a discus lariat.
