Nick Wayne is learning quite a bit from his Patriarch.
WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard recently spoke with Wayne about his relationship with Christian Cage in the Patriarchy. Wayne was asked to name the best advice Christian has given him both in and outside of the ring in their time working together.
“Inside the ring, definitely promos. Absolutely promos. He’s probably like the best talker in professional wrestling, so definitely promos,” Wayne professed. “I always thought, for some reason, that promos were like my kind of weak point. But having him, there and kind of helping me with promos and whatnot has been a huge help to me.”
Wayne said he noticed his own progress and feels more confident speaking. Having Christian critiquing his ring work has been a big help too.
“He watches all my matches, critiquing my matches, I’m asking him like, ‘Please tear me apart with critiques. I want to get better.’ So that definitely helps. Having him so close that you could kind of message or call or talk to whenever is also very helpful.”
Nick Wayne on his relationship with Christian outside of wrestling
Outside of the ring, Wayne said he keeps a very close bond with Christian. He says Christian sees a lot of himself in Wayne, and praised him for delivering on his potential as a wrestler.
“I’ve met his family, so it’s kind of just that emotional attachment outside of the ring. Just talking to us as humans when we put wrestling aside,” Wayne added. “We have a lot of similarities actually as humans, as wrestlers, things we’ve gone through in wrestling and life. So I feel like he kind of looks at me as like a younger version of him. He tells me all the time, he’s like, ‘Thank you for proving me right on why I wanted to work with you.’ That was the biggest blessing to me when he told me that.”
