Claudio Castagnoli has earned a shot at the gold.
On the August 3 episode of AEW Collision, Claudio Castagnoli faced ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty and NJPW’s Tomohiro Ishii in a match where the winner would earn a shot at the AEW Continental Championship. All three competitors battled it out in a thrilling bout, and in the end, Castagnoli clinched the win with a running uppercut to Moriarty.
With the win, Castagnoli earned a shot at AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada. As of this writing, there is no word on when the match will take place. WrestleZone will monitor the situation and provide more information as it becomes available.
Bryan Danielson On Claudio Castagnoli
Bryan Danielson recently praised Claudio Castagnoli. Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, he said he hoped to see Castagnoloi get a world title run.
“I would love to see Claudio as world champion,” said Danielson. “He’s one of the best I’ve ever been in the ring with.”
“I sincerely hope that Claudio gets a run as AEW world champion before he hangs it up. He would make the most of that opportunity.”
Danielson also looked back on Claudio Castagnoli’s run as the ROH World Champion.
“I thought his Ring of Honor world title run was really special,” Danielson said. “I watched all of his matches, and I was in awe of it–as many people often are when they watch Claudio wrestle.”
